I think I’m running into an issue with the rear hatch alignment on my Coupe and wanted to get some input.

When I place the rear glass in the opening without the weather stripping, the alignment looks good — both side-to-side and top-to-bottom. However, when I add the weather stripping (held in temporarily with masking tape), things change.

With the weather stripping in place, the entire top of the glass sits about even with the roofline and the side look good, but the passenger and drivers rear edge — especially at the corners on both sides. The center area sits pretty much flush.

If I press down on the glass, it doesn’t really move any farther — it seems the height of the weather stripping is what’s preventing it from sitting lower.

Is this the way it’s supposed to fit, or am I missing something in my setup? Any advice or pictures from others who’ve gone through this would be greatly appreciated.

If its flush in the center where the latch is then maybe its defective. I have never seen what you are experiencing. Is the weather stripping on the right way? Tall side in? I usually fit the glass and adjust using the 5/16 fuel hose FFR supplies in the kit to fit the glass before paint. The height of the fuel line is just right to hold the glass at the right height. I cut it into several pieces and tap it around the perimeter of the recess.

I was thinking the strip may be too high; however, I am not planning on painting the car for at least a year after I am finished (I want to drive the dang thing so it will be my daily for that time) so I was thinking of just installing the stripping and then adjusting. You see any issues with that thought process?

If you will be driving it for while in gelcoat things might settle a bit.

I have been driving in gelcoat for over a year. I wanted to save the FFR weatherstrip to use after paint so I used the following product temporarily. I am very happy with it and might use it once the paint is done.
