View Full Version : Updated MKV battery tray?

Rickster posted a video of his config (small AGM battery, P/S, 347). It sure doesn't look like the battery is removable.

However, I believe the later MKVs (mine was delivered in August, so after this) have an updated tray and chassis config. If someone has one, can you post some photos/measurements?

I think I've heard it's basically missing some cross supports that the earlier cars have on the chassis along with tabs added for the tray to bolt to. Maybe the tray adds some of the stiffness back, or it really doesn't matter up there as it's not like it's a weak spot in the middle of the chassis length-wise.

Thanks!

I have an early one as well, but if you check the latest copy of the build manual it shows the new configuration. Also - I spoke with FFR the other day about their change and asked whether they made any other structural changes/reinforcements to the frame to allow for the change and the answer was NO - which I then confirmed meant that I could remove the cross braces and put in my own drop out battery tray if I wanted - they agreed.
That said, I opted for the Odyssey PC925 battery and it will fit coming up through the bottom with no changes.
Side note, I have a 347 from BP and the remote brake booster.

This is what the updated battery tray for the Mk5 looks like. Shown in the latest REVISION 1O, OCTOBER 2025 build manual. Available for free at https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-content/manuals/mk5-roadster-manual.pdf.

the new battery setup is fantastic. Kudos to the FFR engineers for listening to the builders concerns with this.

Thanks, guys!

I see a send-cut-send order for a new tray, plus some fab work on the chassis coming.

just ask FFR if they will sell you the retrofit parts
