In the FFR EFI Fuel System manual, there's only one connection shown to the charcoal cannister, which is from the fuel tank vent. Is it OK to leave the other connections open? I thought the can was supposed to be connected to the inlet manifold via a purge control valve? Grateful for clarification on this.

UK emission rules are pretty much same as here in Oz. Yes, it should go to manifold, via a purge valve / solenoid. What engine are you running?

Many thanks for your reply Nige. I'm running a 347 SBF. I haven't sourced induction yet but I'm planning on 8-stack injection. Likewise I don't have an ECU yet - I'm guessing this has to control the purge valve?

G'day Pete,
My understanding of the purge process is that the purge happens only when certain criteria are met, such as:
- engine temperature above a setpoint.
- RPM above a setpoint
Then a valve is opened and fuel vapours are drawn from the charcoal canister into the inlet manifold and are subsequently burnt off.
On cars with ECU, the purge valve is controlled by a solenoid.
I found it hard to get good information. You will have some research ahead.
I plumbed my charcoal canister to the purge valve on my Coyote. I was never able to ascertain if the solenoid/ valve activates. The crate version ECU may not operate it. However , something must work, as I never have fuel smells in my garage, which is quite well sealed.
Cheers,
Nige

Thanks again Nige - that's very helpful - as you say, I've research to do when it comes to ECU selection to check that it will operate the purge valve solenoid (I also have to source these two guys but will do that at the same time as the ECU).
All the best mate,
Pommie Pete :-)
