I finally had my first Go Cart drive and had something go wrong with the electric power steering alignment setup. The steering felt like it was about to collapse so I brought it back and realigned the front tires to within 1/8".

I took it for another short ride which felt better but the right side steering was way out of alignment again so I put it on the rack and found that I could move the wheel in and out with my hands without moving the Lft side.

There are no torn boots or other visible indicators what failed - any ideas where to start?

Thanks!

sounds like the inner tie rod is backing off. Pull the boot and have a look.

Check the bushing on the pass. side of the steering rack - you have to move the boot to see it. if the tie rod is not aligned with the rack, it will displace the bushing, allowing lash (play) between the wheels. Ride height and/or caster out of spec. cause the tie rod to push against the bushing causing it to fail. I ultimately replaced the rubber(?) bushing with a brass one that I machined

That is precisely what happened - the bushing failed. I contacted FF and they are sending me a new steering rack.

They sent me four of them before I figured out the problem was ride height (see my earlier post)
