I had an awesome day at Lake Garnett, KS today, about 70 miles south of my house. I've been aware of this event for a few years, but didn't realize it was so close to me, so I went down today, as a spectator. This is the 10th or 11th year for it, and it's pretty darn cool. I guess this race track, which runs around a small lake (Lake Garnett) was a big track in the 60s and 70s. I think it's around 2.4 miles. They had several classes, from first-timers to purpose-built comp cars to vintage racers. It was awesome to smell race fuel, exhaust, burning oil, and burning rubber. The temps were in the upper 60s, with a light breeze. Couldn't ask for better midwest Fall weather. The Cobras were well-represented today. The MACC club (Mid-America Cobra Club) was there, and I saw several Factory Fives, mostly MkIII and earlier, I think. There were a couple of other manufacturers I didn't identify, but I didn't look too closely. Made me wish I grew up in the 50s and 60s to watch all of our heroes race. Enjoy!

I grew up in central Kansas, and was there in 63 and 64....This was the first time that I had ever seen a Cobra,
but most people were more fascinated with the hauler....No one ad ever envisioned a hauler like it at a SCCA event.

But after the race, the hauler was old news and the Cobras were in their glory.

Here is a good link to the original newspaper coverage of the 63 event:
