I thought I would relay few notes on carpet, since I used the forum for my original research. I have the FFR supplied carpet with my Mk4. I saw that people have mentioned bass boat carpet from BassBoatCarpets.com (there are probably 10 different websites that are likely all the same parent company selling the same stuff.). I ordered a sample of the 20 oz black and compared it to FFR's carpet - it's nearly identical and hard to tell any difference. The bass boat stuff was a richer black color, but the same pile height and density. For the most part, I don't think anyone could tell the difference from a few feet back.

I found some 24 oz black from yourautotrim.com called "Black 72" Wide Limo Luxury Auto Carpet." The pile height is the same as the FFR and Bassboat stuff, but as the increased weight implies, it's much denser. It's hard to tell from the photos, but if you bend the FFR and Bassboat stuff, you can see the backing. With the Limo stuff, you cannot see the backing.

I'm sure there are many other choices. I went ahead and ordered some of the Limo stuff. I'm now at the bodywork stage, so waiting to install while off at paint.

Sounds to me like you found a super carpet. Decades ago my brother was a tech at an antique car restoration shop. The carpet of chice was some 100% wool from Britain. What you found was apparently along those lines. Great researching!
