As I continue playing with Google Gemini, I've created some cool AI generated images of my car.

The last one would be a killer Christmas card!
The last one would be a killer Christmas card!
That's exactly what I created it for!

I went in a different direction:

I don't know how I feel about that. Worthy of contemplation... those images are pretty cool.

Nice images! But it's called "Picture of the month", not "Image of the month". Real photographs only please.

Pretty easy to spot AI generated image. At least, it is right now. There is always some lighting issue(s) with the generated image.

I’d like to clarify a small but important point about terminology that often comes up in discussions around visual media.
The words image, picture, and photo are sometimes used interchangeably, but they do have distinct meanings:
Photo / Photograph – This specifically refers to a visual representation captured by a camera. A photo records light from the real world through photographic or digital sensors.
Picture – This is a broader, everyday word that can describe any visual representation: a photo, a drawing, a painting, or even a digital rendering.
Image – This is the broadest and most technical term. An image may be a photograph, a scanned document, a computer-generated graphic, or an AI-generated composition. It does not imply that the content was captured from reality.
When someone objects to an AI-generated image being described as a photo, they are pointing out that it was not captured from reality through a camera. Referring to it as an AI-generated image (or digital artwork, depending on context) keeps the distinction clear while avoiding confusion or unintended misrepresentation.
In short:
Camera-based = photo
Any visual artwork = picture
General/neutral = image
Using these words precisely ensures that everyone understands whether we are talking about something captured from real life or created by hand or software.
Thank you for considering this clarification.
Embrace it or not, AI is here. I understand the pushback. It has a place and in my shop it has become another tool to help save time and materials. I chose to embrace instead of wet my pants evry time I see it used. Not so easy for me because I am stubborn, extremely opinonated with regards to materials, process and acceptable results. AI has not changed the quality of my work, just reduced time in some instances.

The outside of the Christmas card could say, "Christmas will be a little early this year". The inside could say "Santa has a new sleigh"
I wasn't trying to create a debate on the subject of AI generated images, but since we are having the discussion, here are my thoughts.
To me, AI imagery is just another medium to work with. Photography is an art in its own right, but think about how digital photography has changed that medium? With all the post-processing capabilities available to photographers, they can turn a good photo into a great photo with a couple of clicks of a mouse. In the analog age of film photography, the magic happened in the dark room with the photographer deciding how to develop the image to get the perfect effect in the final product. I feel that as long as AI isn't used to deceive people into believing what they are seeing is anything other than AI generated, there shouldn't be an issue with it being presented for what it is. For me, as someone that grew up through the transition from analog to digital, I find it pretty interesting. I also have some technical knowledge of how AI works from my college and professional training, and I don't think of AI as some malevolent monster. AI is basically not "smart", but rather able to produce new material from a huge repository of data that the algorithm was trained with, and there are several different types of AI algorithms that have been developed to date. The better the data and training, the better the results the AI algorithm will produce.

You could really piss off the teenagers and say "Santa has a new SLAY"... One of my favorite pass times is intentionally miss using my Girls slang. Especially if they have friends around.

Great Job Papa Dave.
I love the first image and the P-51D image.
People only know what they have had to opportunity to learn and understand. For most of us, that is by associative or passive learning by articles, videos, etc.
AI has always been portrayed (warned) as a far reaching futuristic computer programming application that has the ability to reason and learn; with the end result being the sidelining and/or elimination of human knowledge and usefulness.
Personally, I've been on the receiving end of AI functionality in the consultant/recruiter world. AI has been used by recruiter to screen resumes for IT job postings. If there is any minute thing that may either be in your resume, or not in your resume, it will be rejected without ever even being submitted to the company that you may applied to. So the consultant never even has the opportunity to be considered. There are even people who have bragged that they used AI to process through Interviews. I don't know how that would actually work, but I don't doubt that it happens. So that aspect of AI leaves me perplexed and angry.
After 2 years of this, I was finally offered a position in the IT department of a major home building products company based in Charlotte. I learned during the interviews that they do not use AI for any reason; at least at this point.
There is good and bad to most everything. It just depends on how it is used versus how it was intended to be used.
Dave, your pictures look great. I could see any of them blown up into large posters to be hung in your garage.
