View Full Version : Coupe Nose hinges

Hi Guys,
I feel like this has been discussed a lot, but here I go anyway.
Clearly the nose hinges do not allow for the nose to open completely.
I will cut away the nose tunnel aluminum as much as possible.
BTW, what's the best tool for this? I'm already riveted in place.
I also have my rad and A/C condenser in place and would rather not replace the condenser with a smaller one.

Can I just trim the hinges as indicated below in my photos? ( I will also cut away the fibreglass quite aggressively, as I have seen others do.)
This seems like the most straight forward approach. Will that solve all my problems?

I see some builders have added a wedge on the bottom of the bracket. I don't understand this, as my angles seem to work well between the back of the fog light and the bottom return of the nose.
It seems like this will make my problem worse. (am I getting the physics wrong?)

Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks!

i did not put wedges on mine and and it works fine. They might have made a change to the hinge angle so they fit better on later cars like yours? I can't say how the hinges will fit exactly as mine look different but i did cut mine some.

@ChrisNicholls, have you reviewed @edwardb's build? Specifically post #554 (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?26630-Edwardb%92s-Gen-3-Type-65-Coyote-Coupe-59-Build-5-000-Mile-Report&p=358687&viewfull=1#post358687)? I followed his path and cut the bottom of the nose to clear the radiator frame rails (I have to catch up on my build thread....). Once you do that the hood will open more than enough, IMO.

I did not cut any of my nose hinges nor use any wedges. @edwardb did have to use a wedge; however, I believe that was due to an earlier version of the hood design.

I cut the bottom side of the nose to clear the radiator frame. No changes to the hinges at all.
