One piece dashboard?

I am planning my build with some historically accurate visual styling. I would like to do the dashboard similar to the original coupes. That would mean a one piece dashboard.

For those who have built their cars... is the FFR dash setup with the separate gauge panel absolutely needed, or could a one piece dash be used?

A one piece dash could definitely be used. I believe they designed it in two pieces to allow all the gauges to be removable as a "pod".
