So after a couple months, I finally got the fuel system parts to go along with the Gen IV Coyote I purchased from FF-AT.
In putting the pump in the hanger-housing, I’m shocked with how exposed the wiring is given its in-tank. Moreover, I’m surprised how cramped it is -

Can someone familiar with this confirm the setup is right, and advise if not?

Mine was exactly the same. Originally they sent me the wrong pickup so when I got the right one it looked exactly how your have it. It is a snug fit for sure and can only go in one way, with the longer side of the in tank filter facing forwards. There is a little tub looking area inside the tank right where the pickup goes in and the filter sits in that tub.

Took a while to line it up, but once in it went nicely. I put the external filter on the chassis today and am now doing battle with which hose goes where.

Mine was exactly the same. Originally they sent me the wrong pickup so when I got the right one it looked exactly how your have it. There is a little tub looking area inside the tank right where the pickup goes in and the filter sits in that tub.

Did you shorten the formed hose at all (connecting the pump to the outlet (or whatever it’s called))? Not sure that’d help but trying to figure out the best configuration - seems the height of the plug into the pump interferes with one thing or another. And in my pic, the return will pour gas all over the wires… I’m still shocked at this!

Electric in-tank fuel pumps with electrical wires have been a thing in DD's for at least a couple decades now. The company I used to work for was one of the largest suppliers. Pretty informative response from Google AI: "Electric fuel pumps are not dangerous in the gas tank because the pump motor is submerged in liquid fuel, which cools the motor and prevents overheating, while the concentration of fuel vapors inside the tank is too high to create an ignitable (explosive) mixture of air and fuel, a condition that requires a specific fuel-to-oxygen ratio to occur."

The main things to watch for in my experience: The little S-shaped hose needs to be firmly attached at both ends. I've witnessed several failures because the hose disconnected. Also make sure the sleeving over the electrical connections to the motor is fuel resistant. There are products that are adequate. Standard shrink sleeve isn't.

Gas pouring over a standard click connector as well as the standard compression connector… submerged in gas? Really? So I will search for this sleeving —-amazed this is neither included nor mentioned in any instructions. So nothing for the plug connect inside the tank?

Good advice on the formed hose - I will ensure it’s tight-tight.

Still not sure I see you're concern -- based on what's been discussed already -- but that's OK. It's a setup that works and is safe. FWIW, these are the shrink sleeve connectors I've used on several builds: Molex 19164-0077, Perma-Seal™ Heat Shrink & Crimp Step-Down Butt Connector, 16-14/12-10 Ga. Don't know if the wire gauge of these specific connectors fit your installation. But the Perma-Seal™ Heat Shrink is rated for immersion in gasoline and other liquids.

I’ve never installed an in tank fuel pump that didn’t have exposed electrical connections. Depending on your age you’ve driven possibly dozens of cars in your life that are exactly the same. There is virtually no fire/explosion hazard without rupturing the fuel tank. Even in a rear end collision you would have also created a short.

Ford Motor Company installed and sold millions of cars with this arrangement.

Nope I pushed on all the way and managed to get any kinks out (I think).

Now stuck with which braided line goes where....... Did you have any luck with that yet?

I can see the wisdom in that - will do before tightening the clamps

I’m at that point as well (or rather, just before since I haven’t actually put the pump in the tank yet) ——
…thinking through this, there is needs to be a line from the pump to the filter (filter that came with the car kit), then to the regulator, onto the fuel rail. That’s three lines not including any return lines. That’s as far as I have gotten. I’ll advise as I learn more - please do the same!! Thanks!

Hi Chris - following up - did you have luck with the fuel lines? Can you let me know what worked? I’ve been working on the aluminum and will be getting back to the fuel lines soonish…possibly.
