Hello everyone, I'm at my final decision time for my Mk5 complete kit and BP 427 crate. My plan is to register and enjoy in California, but from what others tell me registration can be a trick with smog and safety.

Does anyone have recent experience in the golden state?

Are there any options from FFR or BP options that can help?
They were both quick to send me to the forums...

I'm excited to get started!

The last post in this thread is fairly recent.

Lots of guides on the process if you Google it. I'll be ordering my MK5 kit soon with the Factory Five AT Coyote engine/trans package and getting the SB100 smog exemption as a specially constructed vehicle

I went thru SB100 in June of 2024. Just follow the steps, and be patient!

Hi there. The process is well documented here, just make sure and have everything filled out and ready for each dmv visit. There seems to be some variation between dmv offices on experience level with this process. I went thru the Fullerton office in 2023 and they were friendly and helpful, no issues. I did have to call around a bit to find an auto shop for the brake and lamp inspection that could actually do the inspections, was not stupid expensive, or wanted to keep the car all day and drive it themselves. I went with a shop in Huntington Beach that was easy and had done a few before, pm me if interested.

Don’t let this process stop you, it’s really not that bad, just takes a bit and be ready to pay that big tax bill.
