After some extensive time off since 2022 to build a new shop and garage… I have moved my Mark 4 kit into its new home. And I am now really getting started again. I have all my aluminum ready for powder coating. And am looking for recommendations for a good place to take it in the Grand Rapids Michigan area. I am looking online as well, but wanted to see if anybody had some personal experience of a place they could recommend.

In addition, wanted to see what approaches people took to colorizing their rivets. Did you just buy them in a certain color? Did you paint them? Did you get them powder coated? Any suggestions?

Can cite several PC sources down my direction but have to be some in your area. For rivets, there are a few common colors available. But sometimes limits the length and type of rivets. My go-to is take them apart (not hard), line the rivets up in a block of wood with holes, shoot them with rattle can, then back together. Sometimes the paint will get slightly marred when setting them. If so, touch up with an artist brush using the same paint. Sounds like more work than it really is. just did some for my Mk5 build. I have heard of builders PC'ing them. Haven't tried that.

Slacker garage shop sgs powder coating.
I have used this guy for a number of parts that’s are too large for my oven. He does a good job. Located up near Knapp corner Meijer. Look him up on facebook or instagram, that’s how I connected with him.

Have used Centennial in Zeeland, primarily for panels and small parts. Used Lakeshore PC near Grand haven for the frame and would use either of them again.
