I have noticed the Mustang GT is the 1987 to 93 is the donor of choice if one wants the most common 5.0 engine setup and tranny. Is an LX similar? Are there dimensional differences, mounting, etc?
Thanks for your advice :)

A 5.0 LX is mechanically identical to a GT.

Just be careful there are a lot of 4 cylinder conversioins to 5.0. Check the vin to make sure it was always a V8 car. There are a lot of parts from the 4 cyl that are not a good fit for the FFR car. Depending on your build strategy it may not matter but there are a lot of differences. HTH, Richard.

Thanks Richard. What are the keys in a vin number that identify it as a V8 always?

My donor was a 1989 8-banger LX, and my MKII went together very easily and comfortably with the pieces I reused. Among them: engine, transmission, rear axle & diff, pedal box, front spindles and radiator. The first three of those I had rebuilt. After reconditioning, I reused the radiator but that turned out to be a mistake since it started leaking within the first year. I replaced it, but that process taught me that it's much quicker and easier to install a radiator at the time of the build than it is to replace once everything's done! LX should work fine for you.

Yeah, 5.0 conversions are real popular. One big advantage for young guys is that it stays insured as a 4 cyl. My way younger friend used a 4 cyl w/ auto trans for his car so had great insurance rates.

Only if you choose to be dishonest.
