View Full Version : Coupe Heater Control Valve Problem

I'm nearing the end of my Type 65 coupe build. One thing is not working - the heater control valve. I've double checked the wiring and don't see any issues with the wiring, so I've asked FFR to send a new valve. I hope the valve itself is the issue and this will correct it. But I'm wondering if anyone has had issues with a heater control valve. For reference, the valve is the Thermotion 4 port valve sold with the complete heater and air conditioning option.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I to had issues with getting heat. The installation of the rubber hoses between the metal bulkhead and the heater unit was the only thing I let someone else do on my build. What could they screw up right? With that said I could not get heat. I thought I had an air pocket and tried multiple ways of filling the unit to release the air. Didn't work. Could not see the valve moving so I had FF send a new valve. Still didn't see it moving. Replaced the potentiometer and could see it moving but still no heat. Finally took the hoses off and found that when installed the plugs on the heater unit were never removed!!! Ugh!

Did you remove the rubber plugs in the inlet/outlet connections before you put on the hoses?

Others have had that problem....(exactly what Namrups said...)

My system worked well when installed but later found that the valve was not opening and closing properly. I talked to thermotion and they sent me a new valve. That did not solve the problem so I ordered a new controller and that fixed it. They had not had issues with the controller and said not much to go wrong with them.

I assume I removed the plugs, but it has been a while since I installed the heater box. But it doesn't look to me like the hoses can be installed with the plugs inserted. I have a new valve coming, but I wonder if it could be the controller. Thanks for all the input!

OH YEAH, the hoses can totally be installed with the plugs still in........

To test, drain coolant enough (or get a bucket ready) Unscrew both fittings on the outside of the footbox, then blow air through either (it doesn't matter which)
If coolant and or air does NOT come out of the other port..... those plugs are still there.
