View Full Version : Upper A-arm Mounting Location

This relates to a mk4. I have two build manuals and one shows the upper a-arm mounted on the side and the other shows it mounted on the top location. The manuals each show a different versions of the arm assembly.
Right now mine are mounted in the top position which matches the manual that shows that version of the arm assembly.
Any insight on this topic?
Thanks!
Tim

The wording seems pretty clear.
No, it's not that simple. It's totally dependent on what spindles you're using. If they are the Mustang donor spindles (whether Fox or SN95) the control arms go in the top mounts like your photo. If you are using the FFR 2 piece spindles the arms get installed onto the side mounts. Base kit manual (which is for Mustang spindles) will show it one way and the complete kit manual (which uses FFR spindles) will show it the other.
The upper control arms like you show were only used for a year or so on the very early Mk4s.

Got it! I assumed he was working from a complete kit. Makes sense the way you explain it, JK.

Thanks Jeff - that makes perfect sense!
I am dealing with an SN95 donor in this case and I am referencing a base kit manual as well as a complete kit manual.

Sounds like the base kit manual will be more applicable in your case.
Good luck!
