Hello CT builders / owners,

I am getting ready for inspection in Connecticut shortly (roadster).

Can you provide some tips from your experience?

Would a standard side pipe cover (heat shield) be fine for their requirements or do they want the entire exhaust covered/wrapped as it bends into the body?

Issues with Simpson harnesses not being approved?

I have read previous posts about how the inspector has discretion with the year of car is recorded and DMV tax issues, will re-read. Any new advice regarding this area?

Other thoughts too?

Thank you.

I don't know if this is still valid https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?33678-CT-DMV-Inspection

I did have to wrap my entire sidepipes and cover

Simpson harnesses does not meet the standards of FMVSS 209 &302
Here are the seat belts that got me through the inspection https://www.julianos.com/Chrome-Lift-Latch-Lap-Belt-p/ju0ll1.htm
Meet FMVSS 209 & 302
They used to be in Tolland CT but have moved, call them or maybe find a different supplier.

Interesting stuff. I am actually going to be at FFR tomorrow for an appointment and have the very same questions about the CT registration, titling and inspection process. Let’s see how the handle these questions. It’s sounds like personal property taxes are/were commonly assessed in an unfair manor.

You can check out my thread from back in 2023 when I went through registration.

In 2024, Ct DMV did this whole thing on Factory five needing to be on the National registry list but changed there tune after it was placed on there. Guys like TBEV got caught up in it had to wait like 3 months to get through registration.

I believe they are back to the same rules as I had to go thru in 2023.

All the guys in inspection were pretty nice and as long as you have receipts, follow all the guidelines and can answer their questions, it will be a quick 15 minute inspection.

Registration will be more frustrating since they don’t do a lot of composite cars….

Just make sure you register it as a 1965 composite cobra.

The folks at FFR answered all of my questions when I was there yesterday, but really did not have any answers on this topic regarding registering the car in CT. Has anyone first registered a replica in say Montana and then later transferred the registration to CT? I’m not concerned about sales taxes. I simply want a process that is straightforward.

Thanks all for the replies.

Has anyone wrapped the side pipes and found that is discolors or leaves marks that are problematic to get out? Like on polished stainless?
