Getting ready to install raised white letter billboards on my new tires. Looking for best degreaser to use as prep cleaner?

I'd use the same product that I used back in the day on the whitewall tires of a Harley that I had ... called "Bleche White" Can find it at pretty much any auto parts store.

Bleach White is solid, and so is Comet with Bleach.

Test the cleaner on the back side of your wheel to make sure the cleaner will not harm your wheels...

I am assuming that your RWL are from TredWear , so what do they suggest ??

When I did these I smoothed the sidewalls by grinding the raised black letters using a drum sander (probably 80 grit) in a pneumatic die grinder and followed that up by blending it into the rest of the sidewall using a DA with 80 then moving on to 150ish, maybe 220. Afterwards they were wiped clean with acetone before glueing on the lettering.

What size letterings did you go with? I ordered 1.25” both GY and Eagle. My M/T tires are 245/45-17 and 315/35-17. I didn’t want the letters too big for the sidewalls or too small either.

I really don’t know but I’m sure they were bigger than 1 1/4”. This was a few years ago on a build that I did for a customer and it’s several hundred miles away now!

It’s now obvious as a 1.5” letter. It’s the other sizing offered without customizing. Thanks.

I believe Jeff's tires are 15", be careful if you're putting them on 17" (1.5" may be too big(?).
Maybe someone here can post their 17".

Jeff listed a 245-45-17 tire. That's 4.34" of sidewall height on each side.

@riskshank: Ahhhh, no he didn't. The OP said he was putting them on a 17". And a 17" has 2" of sidewall before getting into the tread, not even close to 4.34". The molded letters on my Mickey Thompsons are only 3/4". I have 17's, I just measured them myself.

OP, double check, 1.5" letters will leave you 1/4" top & bottom, take a look at someone else's before you commit to them.

The photos I posted show 15” tires; 235/60 and 295/50.

Thanks for double checking the sidewall and molded letters on the 17” M/T Sport Comp tires. You feedback assured me that my 1.25” letter heights are where I want it. I want to give the letters good space between the tire’s edge and bead lines.

Not to mention good covered over the M/T molded letters at 3/4” to my GY billboard letters at 1.25”.
