View Full Version : Another Seat Options Thread
When I started my Coupe planning, I was thinking of using the Corbeau TrailCat seats (https://corbeau.com/products/trailcat?variant=46086698074269) in my build. Now, with the chassis in front of me, I realize that the TrailCat seats are too tall at 38.5" plus 1" for the mounting brackets. I've come across a few other threads related to seat options for the Coupe, and this one was very helpful: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?33224-Coupe-seat-options
So, after going back to the drawing board, I have narrowed my selections down to three:
1. Corbeau Evolution X (https://corbeau.com/products/evo?variant=46087856357533)
2. Corbeau RRX (https://corbeau.com/products/rrx?variant=46086882394269)
3. Corbeau A4 (https://corbeau.com/products/a4?variant=46086873907357)
Paul has done a great job describing the Evolution X seats in his Coupe build thread, so I know those should work. Has anyone used either the RRX or A4 seats in a Coupe?
The A4 is the only one of the three that has a sub-belt slot option, but is also the most limited in material choices, none with the red accents I was looking for.
Are there any other highly-recommended options in this price point that others have used that are a good fit?
Thanks,
Dave

Actually Dave if you dig deeper (there is at least one thread posted here somewhere) you'll find that a few other builders attempted to follow Paul's lead and have found that they do not fit well, perhaps due to some changes made by Corbeau.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll ping Paul to see if he can offer any additional insight. Of the three I'm looking at; the Evolution X is the largest and the A4 is the smallest dimensionally.

It looks like the shoulder bolster width is 23.5" on those, so I'm guessing they work work, but all ears if anyone thinks otherwise.
I'd also be interested in hearing if anyone has installed the Sparco Sprint+ seats in a Gen3 Coupe.

I did the Sparco Grid Q's, you could compare the dimensions to see. I know several others have used the Grid Q's as well. Let me know if you want any pictures.

Thanks, Brent. I'm looking at the R100 seats as the forerunner right now.

I can attest to the seats being different. When I went to install the seat I had problems. I contacted Paul and we found that the seat is ~ 1" wider now and the slider is also higher than what pauls were. Having the slider higher ment the seat came into contact with the roll bar. Having a wider seat ment that it could not clear the seatbelt mounts. I was able to juryrig Breeze's roadster sliders to fit the seats so that they clear the roll bars and the fact it doesn't slide all the way to the back worked out ok for me at 5'-8". One thought I had was to change the position on the seatbelt mounts but decided my skills were not good enough for that.

Thanks, Scott. After digging through lots of posts, I think the Sparco R100 seats will work. I just need to find out more about mounting them. I can actually buy them on Amazon, sor a return would be possible if I end up not liking them.

Timely post as I can't seem to land on seats. I really like the Braum falcon-x but they report "upto 36in". May be a tight fit for me. I have been looking at fixed back seats and all of your options are adjustable. I like the R100's so looking forward to your report on fit.
I have been looking at the Kirkey 55 high backs with maybe having custom cushion/cover made. Otherwise the Corbeau FX1 or DFX may be where I land. Really love the look of the OMP RT but I think these are a little pricey and again a smaller fit.

The Sparco R100 seats look great, somewhat smallish, but only a bottom mount system that may NOT work out.

I found these: Base Adapter - Custom | Sparco USA https://share.google/eyhOlU1bjkzSaj3WR
I need to get details from other builders that have successfully mounted the R100 seats in a Coupe.

I like those Sparcos Dave. I can attest the Corbeau Evo X's don't really fit. I bought take outs from a C6 and could not get them to fit. I am not tall but I wanted them adjustable so I can have some reclination in the seat back to move away from the wheel but they were just too wide in the base to fit correctly. I also tried the Valleluenga seats from GT Classics as I love the look of those in classic Porsches but they were a no go as well.
From my perspective, the two hot buttons on fitment are the width of the base at the rear and the angle of the recline to utilize the space behind the seat back. Width at shoulder bolsters is also a concern but less so as you could reshape those pretty easily if one had to. I am upholstering my seats so it doesn't really matter to me what they look like. I will be very interesting to see what you land with as I am at the point in my build where I need seats but buying and testing is a fairly expensive process.

Jesse, a friend of mine, is building his second roadster. He has used custom seats from Intatrim. They look great. Here is a link to his build. Scroll down a few pics to see them. Elsewhere in this tread he does talk about them.

I used the R100 seats. They fit well. But to make it easier I cut the outermost seatbelt mount flush with the floor and welded it into the side bars. Then drilled a hole through the aluminum and bar for the seatbelt bolt.
Also used these sliders and bolts from Amazon.

Great info! Do you think it would be possible to keep the seatbelt mounts where they are, or is moving them a necessity? Also, did you just mount the sliders directly to the floor?

I just looked in my car. That seatbelt mount can probably stay as-is, but might be up against the seat depending on how you mount it.
My sliders are on the floor. I was only able to use 3 bolts, but I'm ok with that.
Thanks again! I'm thinking about getting the Breeze seat mounts and seeing if I can make them work with the Sparco seats.

I tried them in mine too and they had me basically crammed up against the wheel. They did work out nice in my Mustang though so I kept them.

Has anyone considered the Corbeau LG1? From comments on their website it sounds like comfort is decent and it doesn't appear to be much larger than other seats I've seen mentioned.
Corbeau LG1 (https://corbeau.com/products/lg1?variant=46082966782109)
The R100 is 19.5" wide at the shoulder bolsters and 19.5" wide at the seat base. The Corbeau LG1 is wider - 20.5" wide at the shoulder bolster and 21" wide at the base, so 1" wider up top and 1.5" wider at the bottom. It is wider, but it's also significantly shorter at 32.5" tall versus the 36.5" height of the R100. The angle of the bolsters up to the headrest on the LG1 seems to be a sharper angle as well, so maybe the reduced height and angle down to the bolsters will help it clear the fiberglass body a little better? If so, that leaves the base as a potential problem at 1.5" wider than the R100, but that could possibly be solved by relocating the seat belt mount(s) to gain clearance?
I don't have my coupe yet, so I can't measure anything myself. I'm not entirely sure of all the fitment pain points with the seats yet. Just hoping to contribute, and I've spent a lot of time looking and thinking about seating since I want to spend as much time in the seat as possible.
This is my first time posting, so hopefully the image with the specs comes through OK?

Welcome to the forum. The picture is good and easy to read. It is hard to say if it will fit without trying one, there are so many different possible interference points. I have the Sparco Grid Qs but may change them out, I will take a look at the dimensions in my car and see what it looks like.

I am picking up a set of R100's tomorrow. Brand new from a guy like us - bought them, fit them and needs to go a different direction. Looking forward to seeing if I can squeeze them in.

As requested above. I actually think these are going to work. I don't have the aluminum in so it's a little difficult to tell if there will be interefence on either the tunnel or the pontoon side but I don't believe this will be the case. I tried to take some pictures that illustrate the fitment.
218421218423218422218424
I assembled this high tech plumb bob to illustrate where the steering wheel center is in relation to the seat center. There is enough room to pivot the seat about an inch to the left or right depending on the driver's preference.

Tim,
That looks promising! I'm thinking of using Send-Cut-Send to make custom mounting plate/brackets unless the Sparco sliders can be mounted to the floor. It looks like maybe just some flat steel that extends forward a bit could do the trick.

I should note, the seat is sitting on it's base with no mounts or sliders. The Corbeaus I had purchased previously had 1/4" X 1 1/2" bar stock mounts from Corbeau that I probably should've kept. They were perfect if you didn't want to use sliders. You could pretty much drill holes in them anywhere convenient to mount the seats to the pan. These new seats came with bottom and side mounts as well as sliders, all of which I am going to test fit.
Also, as a side note, the recliner levers are on both sides of the seat and I could reach and actuate both while sitting in the seat.

I also have sparco seats in the gen 3 coupe. The sparco base is a little wide for the mounting surface in the coupe. Here is a video that shows a good idea on how to overcome the base mismatch.
He is using the Jegs universal seat slider on the driver seat, it is a little unique because the slider can be installed upside down and the handle still operates in the proper orientation, however it is stationary when the seat moves.
I am using this approach on my build.
