Hello Everyone,

I think I am getting close to looking for somewhere to get my Mark V painted. I have a couple questions:

1) Do I deliver the car with the body on or off?
2) If I deliver with body on, once they take the body off can I take back the car to continue work while they paint?
3) I know this depends on the shop but what are you seeing for turn around times?
4) Should I ever dare ask what price ranges you are seeing? (I know this question is controversial)
5) Does anyone have experience with any painters near San Antonio?

Thank you everyone in advance! Picture for Attention!!

These questions can only be answered by the shop you choose. Paint shops don't all do the something

1) If you take the body without the chassis don't plan on having anything fit when you try to put it all together!
2,3,4) As Rich said
5) No

Consider reaching out to mike.bray on the forums. He's from DFW area but has a guy/shop that he used.

You certainly do not want the shop that painted mine!

I would strongly recommend Brent's Customs in Lewisville. He's done some nice work on my 68 Camaro and has done a few Factory Five Cobras. Very high quality and fair pricing.

This is Randy Candy Red on an FFR that Brent did.

You might want to put the body get it road ready and put some shake down miles on it. That way you can learn how to put the body on and square it to the chassis, fit the hood ,trunk, and doors and fix any issues before it’s painted. I have 400 miles on my Cobra and am deciding between 3 paint shops. Sorry I live in Charlotte NC. I can tell you this a great paint job ain’t going to be cheep and you might have to get on a waitlist.

When I brought mine to paint, it was at the go cart stage (very early at that) and still had a lot of work to go. The painter (Ken Pike) used that time to do the initial body fit, ensured the cutouts were aligned etc. After the initial fit was completed, I picked up the chassis and continued the build as the whole painting process took several months (there was a line of course). It will be between you and your paint shop as to how much they will complete—for example, Ken did all the body work plus fit my side pipes and the cutouts properly, but I installed the lighting assemblies, roll bar, louvers, etc. Some shops will do more but of course it’s a cost consideration.

At first, hearing how long it would take was a little bit of a shock, but in the end I needed all that time to do my part and it worked out very well. As for cost, the forums have good insight and I am very happy knowing that my paint was done right with very high quality work. These folks are artists and I was very happy to pay for the highest quality work and peace of mind!
