Not sure if he is a vendor on here so I won’t mention where I got it from but a guy just came out with a kit to open and hold the doors open so they do not continuously close while trying to get out. Same guy makes the tow bar kit and flag mounts. Love his stuff. Tried to post a video of it but will not upload. He has the videos posted so with a little research I’m sure you all will find it.

How close is the cylinder to your legs when the door is closed? Like the concept, getting out is a pain in the butt with the door closing on your leg.

Cool! Working on MkV versions?

Hey Kevin,
There is no interference with the cylinder and your leg whatsoever! Its tucked up and away very nicely. My wife loves this new option. She was always fitting the door getting out and was worried about burning her leg.....Not anymore! Thanks again and take advantage of the $15 discount.

I did a variation of this 5 years ago.

I think total build was around fifty bucks and a sweet afternoon in the garage. Still working perfectly, with just enough grunt to hold door open and gives the door a nice action.

The strut is mounted high and tucked out of sight behind the dash.

Cheers,

Nige

Cool - but you should offer a version where the cylinder is a linear actuator, and it soft opens AND closes!

Also, you should do a discount for purchasing multiple items.... I'm gonna need some of this stuff

Very cool but not sure about the visible cylinder. Maybe create a cover for it?

Very cool but not sure about the visible cylinder. Maybe create a cover for it?

If the strut is mounted per the design I employed, then it is almost entirely hidden behind the dash.

Nige.

Since posting this question, I was able to access your website. Very nice product and well worth the money. I have since decided it wont work for me, as I have a narrow parking spot in my shop...I cant open the door all the way without hitting the wall. It is what it is. But I do commend you for creating this AND your towbar. I hope you keep creating cool stuff. :)

That's a great price for the struts.

Don't forget to order a right angle bracket as well

Cool thing about this kit is that you can adjust how much the door opens.

This got my interest and it got me to thinking. There are many instances where I don't have room to open my door fully due to obstructions. (enclosed trailer for instance). For me I would be afraid of the door popping open and hitting something causing damage.

Same here. I just tightened the hing bolts up a wee bit so the door opens and stays where you leave it. It takes a bit to get it just tight where it will stay where you leave it and yet can easily close the door. And.....Its free.
