Need help. building a gen3 type 65 coupe, all new parts including a gen 3 coyote and the factory five KRC power steering option. At the first short go cart ride the steering fluid began filling the rubber boots at each end of the steering rack. I notified factory five of the problem and they sent a new steering rack. installed the new rack and after another short ride one boot filled with oil and leaked onto the ground emptying the resevour. steering works freely and power steering works as long as their is oil. I called KRC thinking the pump pressure is to high and was told their is a pressure relief valve and it`s a rack problem with bad seals. I find it hard to believe two steering racks were bad. Awaiting factory fives response and any help would be appreciated. Anyone have a problem like this, is there a better power steering rack to use? Thanks in advance.

I went through two pumps and a steering rack. First - most important - make sure your power steering pump pulley is larger than your crankshaft pulley, so you are not overdriving the pump. I know KRC says 6500 is OK, but less is better. My Coupe is a race car so lives at 4000 to 6500 rpm all the time. Here's what I did:

New Jones racing power steering pump GM Type 2 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/JRP-PS9008ALAR)
New power steering pump pulley (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/TN1-401-002)
Heidts adjustable power steering valve (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDT-PS-101)
Derale power steering cooler (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XONRIQ?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_ti tle_1)
PSC steering rack - no rack extenders needed on my coupe, not sure why. (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/PFN-RA-33500)

No more power steering problems after two days of racing. Fluid still gets pretty warm, but steering is perfect now. The adjusting valve lets me dial in the feel I like.

I've used the KRC setup on several builds including my current Gen 3 Coupe. It's a top notch system and I highly doubt that's the problem. Their Coyote setup has the proper pulley on the pump and the proper swap pulley for the water pump. It's a proven setup. Possible to get two bad racks? Anything's possible. Yes there are higher end racks. But FF should be able to provide one that doesn't leak. I suspect you would see different symptoms, but positive you have the hoses connected to the right ports? The pressure port is closest to the rack body, while the return port is closest to the input shaft.

What are thoughts on Forte’s coyote PS system which has a tensioner vs the more compact and integrated KRC set up. Does the tensioner add enough to the total system to add a separate reservoir?

I would argue the KRC pump is higher quality than the OE style pump that Forte installs plus it has the changeable flow valve. The integrated tank makes plumbing easier and no separate tank to account for. Also, the Forte setup blocks the factory A/C compressor location if that's in the cards. The KRC kit isn't cheap, so there's that.

Just purchase the PSC and never look back.
