Hi guys took the beast out this am ( so I could clean the garage floor and brag to the neigbors a bit !) this is the first time it has been out of the garage, its 99% completed And I have started the TAG process. I did measure de Db of the exaust at Iddle to be 80 db (4 feet from the car) and 100 db at 3000 rpm cant wait to try it on the open road. I did not take it for a spin since up here all the roads are covered in pebbles and the streets are still frozen and we still have white stuff up here.

MK4 -- Your car looks great. Barely was able to drive mine late last year before winter arrived. So I know what you're feeling.

Those are from Tangent Technologies, here http://www.tangentkits.com/Driving_Lights_and_Grill.php

Have 'em on mine too. I agree it's a nice look.

I've been going through some serious "cruising" withdrawl this week. Did what you did last Sunday. Removed the trickle charger and backed it out of the garage and just let it run for 1/2 hour. So today is beautiful, sunny, mid 50's so I decide a good day for a ride. All the salt has been washed off the roads from the past week's rain so it seemed my winter detailing (even under the car) wouldn't get messed up. There is a beautiful stretch of country road near me and its a blast to drive. About halfway down the road there's a guy who's flashing his lights at me. I though maybe I was going too fast? Maybe he just liked the car? On the road home I see the lines in the road that shouldn't be there. Salt brine? Thought the rain had washed all of it away? The farther down the road I got it started to get wet, then a huge puddle of the stuff all over the road. Then coming the other way (two lane road) the truck spraying the road for the snow they had already called off for tomorrow. Needless to say I'm pissed. They use salt brine around here to pre treat the roads. We were supposed to have a storm tomorrow but it's gonna stay south. So now my car is covered in salt brine. So I come home and get out the hose. Probably should have left it in the driveway like last week. Now I think I know why the guy was flashing his lights! Spring can't get here fast enough!

Patpur-

What an awful story! Man would I be twisted if something like that happened! I understand the brine solution, as they use the same thing down here in Tar Heel country. But if it is still wet, you might as well be driving into the Atlantic (the Pacific for you "left coast" guys). The worst part is that it wasn't even necessary as the storm went bye-bye... Sorry man! My empathy can't help clean your car, but it is there nonetheless!

Steve

Very very nice car JF. I like your paint job, you should let me know where you did it. The touch of the front with the fog lights and grills give a great look, may consider it for my kit. Let me know when it will be registered in Quebec, I may need advice for future.

MK4,
How did you attach your vertical bars to support the grille? I would like to see details of the grille project. It looks great. I am making an assumption here. Since I haven't seen this grille, I thought you fabbed it including the custom cut oil cooler hole (running lights) and the hood scoop. I didn't see any holes in the inside of the grill opening so I figured you must have glassed some mounts in there. Thanks, WEK.

MK4
02-26-2012, 01:14 PM
Well you are right this grill is 100% my design. It is made of 1 inch wide aluminium bar 1/8 thick. the bar are mounted on 2 threaded rod and the bar are separated by ruber bushing (that act as spacers, from a plumbing store) this set up give flex to the assembly and is very sturdy! Inside the radiator inlet I glued and screwed 2 braket that are loted to received the grill assembly, I also used the lower cowl panel from FFr to lock in place the whole assembly at the bottom. I included a bunch of picture for your pleasure. as for the Oil cooler set up I bought it from Tangent, cool and comes complet with running lights.

Well this week ends plan was to complet the roadster 100% for this wednesday's inspection...... Well stuff kind of hapenned!

First started by a leak in the kitchen this morning, off to home depot to get all the parts needed to redo the complete darain systeme in the kitchen total 2 hrs of work and running around..

Then the kids went playing outside, and ho surprised they started bringing me some roof singles (where are those from?). Sure enough the where from my roof, last night we had a major wind storm, so to the roof I went, to see that I could see plywood in a few spots, so back to home depot for some roofing tar... that will hold a few days until I get a crew up there to replace the complet roof..

Nevermind the rest of the distractions this week end I still managed to complet the roadster 99%, the only thing left to do is the cold air intak to finish welding up. I even took the time to clean and detail (roughly) the car, It cant hurt to have it looking stunning for the inspection, so all the chrome leather and rims got some attention

Over all a busy week end but a very satisfying one..

The car is now safely on the trailer ready to go to the SAAQ for its mechanical inspection

Well the ins pection went well took about 2 hrs and he only found 1 minor thing on the front suspension (my bad) when wheels off ground the coil over springs are loose and could move up and downn about 1 inch. But that is the only thing he found wrong. So I am very glad this is done, my VIN number is now on the car (so I can think about insuring this as a car finally!!) Now all the paperwork is going to Quebec city for their final blessing, Hopefully no more changes or questions from anyone, then I go back for them to inspect the minor and get the little but Ho so important sticker that will allow me to go and get a license plate. A sausual here are some pics...

An here is a little video of the short drive the inspector did with the car... Fiorst time ever that someone else then me drives it!

Hello Jean! Congrats on making this far! You guys must have unbelievable patients with your DMV there.
I noticed something that you need to be careful with. One of your pictures shows your car on the trailer covered. May I suggest that you not tow with cover on it.
The reason is that the cover will do very nasty things to that beautiful paint while towing. As odd as it sounds, the wind passing over and around it will turn that cover into a piece of sandpaper.
It can do some serious damage.
Just want to pass that along!
Gotta close the barn door before the horse get out!
BTW, The DMV driver looked like he wanted to take your car out for a spin.
Have fun with it!
