Installing these and noticed a couple of things. One, these are 60lbs struts. Does that seem too stout? And two, does it look like these will be operational at this angle in the pic? I have them this way as the head of the strut pushes pretty hard on the cockpit wall when straight forward. When sitting at this angle, there is no pressure. Can't put them outboard of the roll bar as they interfere with the seat belt slots.

Does it hold the trunk lid up? Seems like that should work. When I installed mine, I could push the arm down (the piece that bolts to the trunk) with moderate effort.

Not sure yet as I don't have the body on but wasn't sure about the angle. I didn't have any trunk struts in the last build so don't have much of a reference.

Not going to work if they have no pressure on them?

And for what it's worth, my struts are between the roll bar and the inboard seat belt slot, and there is not interference with the seat belt. It's close, but it works. The seat belt doesn't retract, so even it if rubs on the seat belt, you're fine. To be sure, I put some rubber edging on the strut mount bracket by the seat belt slot.

When I install them I put the chassis mount between the belts and the hinge ball on the outboard side of the arm.

The slight angle is not an issue.

Thanks guys. Anyone use a 40lb strut versus 60?

The kit struts, work fine. Why do you think you need something different? Get yours mounted up and your trunk lid on. You'll see it works fine.

Edit...I understand your 60# question now...

Not sure how or why you have 60# struts???? The FFR supplied struts are 28#, Suspa C16-02622.

I was thinking the same thing Jeff. I’ll check the model number when I get back today.

Just checked my Mk5 shipped trunk lid struts, and they indicate 28 lbs.

I thought the shorter set of struts would be for the trunk not hood but I guess that’s wrong. I looked at the longer struts and they are 20lb. The shorter ones are indeed 60lbs (C16-02622).

Hood struts are shorter than the trunk struts.

Thanks Jeff. I’ll swap ‘em out.

Now, I am confused, which is easy to do.
Just checked by hood struts and they are 20 1/2" long, 20 or 30 lbs (hard to read), #2449.
My trunks are 18" long and 28 lbs. #2507.
Let the fun continue.

Edit, I just checked my Mk4 hood struts and they are about 20" and say 20 lbs. So, things are all over the board.

My longer ones for the trunk are #8568 and 19.7” long. My shorter hood struts are #2622 and 17.1” long. They say 60lbs on the struts themselves but the Suspa website says 28lbs.

Chad, you’ll find that with the 17” struts on the hood it won’t open fully.

Always amazes me how much you know about these cars Jeff, even down to the finest detail! I have a call into FFR to see if I can get at least these hood struts swapped out. To Ralph's point, not sure why they are all over the place in size.

I had the wrong struts on my last build for like a month before I realized why the hood didn’t open wide enough. Doh

For what it’s worth did this to better align the struts. Used couplers, seems to work pretty well.
