I’m scheduled to pick up my roadster later this month. Along with photos and some other recording, I’d love to be able to capture 1-2 timelapses of my build.
Ideally, I’d be able to mount it up on a wall in the shop and control it via wifi or Bluetooth and stay plugged in. Plenty of bandwidth / coverage out there.
Is there an easy button for this outside of expensive construction Timelapse cameras?
If it was fully remote controlled, I’d do two. If not, I’d do from one side as I have a loft I can reach.
Any other thoughts for the “digital story” from folks?

Hey Rick
I did time lapses with my GoPro. The function was easy to use and different mounts available.

I did put a ring camera in my garage….it turns on whenever I want it to, or whenever there is motion. It works, but I do not think I would recommend that approach for long term archive recordings. Viewing the footage is super easy. Preserving the footage is a little more cumbersome. So there is a “what not to do reference point” for you. The Ring security camera footage of the Stewart driver bringing my car up the driveway was a keeper though….make sure you capture that, they do a great job.

I have a friend that is selling me his GoPro Hero Black 7 for $50. Looks like I can do timelapse in video or image form, with the latter being more flexible/better quality for later, just need to stitch them together. Picking that up next week and I'll give it a test.
Thanks!

This brings back great memories. I did a couple of timelapse videos of my two build parties back in 2004, because I knew that's when we would make the most progress in the least time. The project was seriously old-school, by modern standards -- I mounted a digital camcorder on a tripod pointed at the chassis and let it run all day. It might have even been on D8 tape, I don't recall. Later, I imported all the recordings into the computer (a big double-wide tower affair back then!) and used very basic editing software to crunch each video down into a time-lapse. Each assembled video capture was about ten hours long, and the final video was a minute or two. Back then it took a lot of processing power and time to render those clips! I also had a sort of blog website where I posted a few still shots of daily progress other than the build parties. (I was trying to do a 30-day build at the time -- which other than the early 4.6 modular engine wiring challenges and associated delays was mostly a success -- and forum friends and others seemed to enjoy following along what I'd managed to accomplish each day. I got great feedback from forum guys and other builders, and my friends with zero car enthusiast knowledge also found it entertaining to watch. Consider a build thread of that sort, either here on the forum or somewhere else, because you will be surprised how many family and friends show interest even if it is not their own hobby.)
Sorry I don't have any direct recommendations, but my friends mostly use GoPro for everything these days -- I see others have already recommended that. I just appreciated the trip down memory lane of good friends and great build parties 20+ years ago.
Cheers, John
