View Full Version : Mustang Pedal Box Bolt Size Question

Anybody know the size of the bolt in an SN95 Mustang pedal box that the brake pedal hangs from?

I'm in the go-kart phase and I've found that the brake pedal is too far to the right, such that my shoe can catch the right side of the brake pedal pad when I'm operating the throttle pedal. So, I'm in the process of removing the brake pedal to bend it slightly to the left to provide some additional clearance between the brake and throttle pedals.

The problem is that the bolt I'm asking about was installed from the passenger side and it's long enough that there's not enough clearance between the bolt head and the footbox to remove it. So, I'm planning on cutting the head off, pulling the shaft out from the driver's (left) side, then installing the new bolt from the driver's side.

Thanks.

Oh, I don't know, maybe look at it and measure it after you cut it off??

That's exactly what I did.

8mm x 5.25" (135ish mm)

Not sure if you have one of these, but I use it all the time.

rickster991,

Thanks, but I used the thread checker tool in my old Craftsman tap and die set.

I thought that I'd need to buy a new bolt, but instead I cut off the head of the bolt as close to the flange as possible. I was then able to extract the bolt from the driver's side. Then I clamped it in my vise, ran my 8mm x 1.25 die over the cutoff end and welded an 8 mm nut to the end, effectively making a new bolt.

Worked like a charm.

Curious, you a Porsche fan?

I am. Had a 1972 911T, but Porsche has gotten too expensive for me, so last year I bought a 2024 BRZ ("poor man's Porsche"). Fun little car.

Funny, I have a collection of Excellence magazines, beginning with issue number 1 that I'm giving to an ex-coworker who's coming up this morning to pick them up. He has a 996 Turbo plus a couple of BMW coupes.

Also, I read the first post of your build log. Saw the Gumball Rally back in high school and like you, it's what got me interested in Cobras. Hence the license plate on the first Factory Five I built.
