Good evening all
I'm currently working through the wiring on my MK3 kit. It came with an American Autowire harness. This is obviously different than the RF harness so I am piecing the FFR instructions and the AA instructions together. The struggle is the information is not complete and I can't seem to piece it all together.

I'm trying to integrate a fan relay for this harness (500230). I'm also using the supplemental instruction 500432 for the front light harness. I'm thinking the relay can go in the fan switch location. This seems to have an orange wire in and an orange wire out. Then I need to add a ground and and keyed ignition source. My thought is to run the ground to a temp sender in the engine that cycles on and off to control the fan from running all the time.

Is my logic reasonable and sound? Please chime in.

Thanks in advance
Todd

Looking at your diagram, check to see if the fused "orange" wire is hot when key is ON or OFF. Either way is fine, but ON would be best. This way the fan will work only when key is ON, and means you have some control when fan is on. I would then run the other "orange" wire to a relay (86) as the control feed. You would then need a BAT+ to (30), and use a larger wire, to feed the fan circuit, which would then complete via (87) to the fan itself. Terminal (85) is the ground side and would activate as such if connected all the time. So, this wire should go to your temperature activated thermo switch, and/or additional toggle-to-ground, to activate. Look at this diagram to follow flow. You can scroll down a bit more and see how I have my fan controlled by all three (EFI, thermo sw. and toggle).

It's best to keep a direct feed from the relay to the fan (controlled unit) to eliminate "hot spots" when going through a connector. Best place for the radiator/coolant thermo switch is in the radiator outlet side (to water pump) or at least in a flow path in the intake. That will control it automatically. Also, if using EFI and it can control the fan, you can do both or all three tied together.

Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I'm a long way from knowing if the wire you asked about is keyed on/off. I'm just starting the wiring process. I'll try to investigate with the schematic and harness.

Thank you!

My guess is it's Key ON by looking at the diagram. Brown wire from Ignition Sw. to fuse buss bar (with orange wire) then to ALT. Most likely goes to the IGN side of the ignition switch so when key goes ON, it gets power from the red BAT wire. Once its connected, a no brainer to test.
