I recently purchased a completed MKIII Roadster and the steering wheel is offset clockwise about 90 degrees. I have read in various threads that other owners have this same issue. From what I read it seems the common fix is to redrill the hub to the steering wheel to get it aligned. To me this does not seem to be the proper fix. Can you tell me how to get it aligned?

The steering column joins the stering rack in a splined joint. Just pull the column out of the joint and turn it to get close. Ask an alignment shop to get the final degree or two adjusted by adjusting the outer tie rods for you.
The right way to do it is to disconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack. Then center the front wheels and steering wheel and then reattach the shaft. Once you have it close you can fine tune at the tie-rods by adjusting both sides equal but opposite amounts. Note that on the stock ’87 – ’93 Mustang rack, the inner tie-rod does turn at the inner joint so you can just loosen the lock nut and turn the inner to shorten one side/lengthen the other.
EDIT - Sorry, I just noticed that this is in the "Ask the FFR Tech" section. I'm not a FFR Tech, so my advice is what it is.. Use at your own risk! :)

Thanks. I will look at it this weekend. I have a Flaming River rack. Will that make any difference?

Nope. Look for set screws in the column. Both the pillow block bearing behind the dash and the column near the rack have them (at least mine do).
