I guess the clocks in the gps vintage gauges light up now...? Everything I read said don't kill yourself with wiring trying to get it to light up as they don't from SpeedHut
That was a nice surprise tonight.

When Speedhut changed to LED backlighting, the clock was updated.

Does the new model also actually keep time? :D

That's an option you have to pay extra for.

Kleiner pointed out a while back that the old clocks would jump time (1min) each time you started the car.
I've just gotten used to using the clock on my GPS gauges rather then resetting my clock every few months.

Even if directly wired to the battery?

Even if directly wired to the battery?

Every time power is applied to the clock, it advances one minute. If the voltage goes low enough on cranking, it causes the clock to advance. Personally, I have not experienced this problem. It could be overcome with a diode / capacitor on the clock power supply.

If anyone needs it, I can sketch up a solution, when I get back from travel.

No, that won't happen if you supply clock power directly from the battery. With the Ron Francis harness though clock power is dropped every time the ignition switch is turned to the "crank" position and then restored when the key is turned back to "run" causing the clock to advance.

I dunno... My clock is wired "hot all the time" (It's a fox-mustang wiring harness). It doesn't come "direct from the battery", though I would guess it's tapped from one of the wires on the always-hot side of the starter solenoid WITH the positive battery cable. I went out and set it, verified that it advances normally with the key-off, and it does NOT advance when I turn the key on-off, nor when I start the car. It's just NEVER kept accurate time. I forget whether it loses or gains time, though I would bet on LOSING time.
