For those of you that installed AC, did you crimp your own lines? Was it successful ? I bought a crimping tool, but I am having second thoughts. This is what I bought.

Those crimpers work. I have a similar one that does standard and reduced barrier. I don't know about the quality of the Vevor unit but I can tell you AC fittings are inexpensive and you could make duplicate hoses just for insurance. I wouldn't hesitate to try it. Follow the set up procedures, make sure your hose doesn't slip and crimp away. You could always build your lines and take them to a hydraulic shop and have them tested.

I bought and used a Mastercool 71550 Manual A/C Hose Crimper for my two builds with A/C. It mounts in a vise and tightens with a wrench. I've had good luck with it. The dies look similar to the ones in your Vevor branded set. As PNWTim said, the fittings are cheap. I practiced a bit the first time to gain confidence since I'd never done A/C hoses before.

I did the math and the choice was easy for me…..first I was impressed that vintage air would “loan” you the nice one for a $500 deposit. If you get it back to them within 10 days of when it leaves their shop, they return your deposit, else it is yours to keep….just pay for shipping each way. …. Instead I purchased this unit (REDLOONG Hydraulic AC Hose Crimper Tool with 7 Snap-On Dies, Manual Handheld Hydra-Krimp 71500 for Auto A/C Line and Air Conditioning System Repair https://a.co/d/0yc5i2e ) in used/mint condition for $101, with free prime shipping shipping/returns and I have to say it makes the job really easy and increasingly satisfying. I am 80% done with my lines and plan to keep the tool…it does a great job. I have used it on both standard and reduced barrier 6,8 & 10 lines.

I have that same crimper, worked great. Just make sure your hose is fully in the fitting. I did have an oil leak in the pump, (blew out the little o-ring where the handle connects) but that was my fault, I was determined to squeeze the handle one, more, time! LOL I was able to take the unit apart without too much trouble and refill with jack oil.

I say, just do it.
