I have a 87-93 pedal box, a 94/95 pedal box, and my 289 USRRC kit is going to come with a Wilwood pedal box. I was originally planning on using the 94/95 with a basic kit, but now I’ve switched to 289 USRRC complete kit.
Which is the preferred box to use?

You're paying for the Wilwood pedal box as part of the complete kit. Why wouldn't you use it?

You're paying for the Wilwood pedal box as part of the complete kit. Why wouldn't you use it? it’s my first build so I’m asking the opinions of others who have experience. I have three pedal boxes, I’m going to re-sell two of them. If the consensus is the 94 is a good way to go, I would have no problem selling the Wilwood. My assumption is everyone who has done the donor route and the Wilwood installation will say to go with Wilwood. Never hurts to ask.

I'm building a complete kit (Mark 4) that came with the Wilwood pedal box, but I'm using a 1995 Mustang pedal box for a couple of reasons.

1. OEM automobile manufacturer quality.

2. And more importantly, I'm upgrading to vacuum-assisted power brakes and the Mustang pedal box makes it a pretty easy project.

Honestly it never occurred to me not to use the wilwood. It seems to be be very good but now I have another question to think about for my next build…

What Jim said. Use the 95 and do a power brake conversion. All off the shelf parts with one minor frame mod. There are a few more advantages of doing this. Easy serviceability of the brake system. NO brake fluid inside your car.
One downside, you will need to do a Cable clutch. Not really an issue if you use the Ford cable.
I actually use that box in all my pre mark 5 builds unless the customer insists on a hydraulic clutch.

I used an SN95 pedal assembly in my MK3. I included power assist as well, per Mike's recommendation. Still building my car so I can't comment on feel or anything like that, but I do like no brake fluid in the pedal box. The frame modification is easy if you have a welder, but it can also be bolted.

Totally agree with Mike and Jim. Mike suggested this to me 5 years ago. I'm using the 87-93 pedal box with power brakes. Simple, no leaks in the foot box and there's thousands of FFR cars out there done this way. My car stops like a daily driver.

Can't disagree with Mike the only caveat being that the Wilwood box features a balance bar with separate front and rear master cylinders to allow for front to rear brake bias which isn't possible with the tandem master used with Mustang donor pedal boxes. For a street only car the donor setup works well.

Mcleod makes a hydraulic system that uses a cable pull master cylinder. I'm using it with a Mustang pedal box and it works well. I bought it to lighten the pedal pressure, which it did NOT do...

I LOVE my hydraulic clutch with the Tilton HTB, so easy to actuate and smooth as silk. Makes driving a real pleasure. I've not driven a Cobra with a cable clutch but did do a cable in a street rod one time, never really liked it.

Driving a Cobra with a Mustang pedal box and a genuine Ford clutch cable has a clutch actuation exactly like a FOX or an SN95 Mustang. (I had the same setup in my first Factory Five. Didn't have a problem nor think pedal effort was too high in over 46K miles.)
