Hello, I am awaiting delivery of my Hot Rod Truck kit and gathering parts.
My question is my accessory drive kit requires a SBC long style water pump but the instructions state to use a short style pump. Will there be a clearance issue if i use the Long style water pump?

Thanks,

David

To be honest, there could be. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

You should reach out to builders who have used the SBC and built the 33 Hot Rod or the 35 Truck, both have the same front chassis.

I had clearance issues as well with my SBF. What comes into play, depends on the Accessory drive and the type/number of accessories you have.
1) alternator
2) power steering
3) A/C/ compressor etc.

Also consider the accessory drive idler and tensioner pullies. (this is where I had issues)

If you look closely you will see a leather glove. That is resting on top of small, one inch tube diagonal brace. And so is the tensioner pulley. With Ford, there are several choices when it comes to water pumps: Tall, Middle, Short; Left or Right exit; as well as Clockwise and Counter Clockwise. even with all those choices I thought I had done all the correct research and made my selection for an accessory drive. Well, I should have gone another route without the tensioner. The type were each accessory is adjustable for belt tension. But, I wanted the serpentine belt, not multiple v belts.

Bottom line, you may not know until your chassis arrives and you can measure everything. I talked to tech at FFR. I gave them a drawing of a gusset I was planning to make to work that tube around the tensioner. They said, "if you feel skilled enough to make the gusset, then you should be ok."

Hope that helps, good luck

Hey, David. I recently used a dressed, 383 SBC from Blueprint with the long water pump in my build. The long water pump fits with no issues. I am going to have to move the AC compressor as there isn’t room given how it was originally mounted, but there are a ton of options along those lines.

Hi , Thanks for the reply. I have a March mid mount kit. It has the ac compressor mounted low. Hopefully the positioning will clear. What did you do the make your setup work?

Thanks
David
