Hi all,

I am looking to get my machine insured and on the road.

I certain insurance company is asking me for my driving resume.

I don’t have anything formal, just driving all sorts of stuff for a long time.

Any advice on the best was to respond?

Thanks as usual.

Yeah, explore another company.

I just went thru this and have (passed). I just listed all the sporty cars I owned and the years I owned them. Camaros, TransAM, Teslas, Corvette. I did not get into Horsepower or 0-60... Try.

I agree with Jeff.

Call Midwest Classic , talk to Robbin . He'll give you a fair deal. I started with that certain company. They are not the best deal.

I got my policy through Robbin as well, very reasonable and the process was simple.

I had a similar experience when I got insurance. Although it wasn't a resume, it was an interview about being able to handle 400 hp. They wanted to know my background in high performance vehicles starting from when I was young till the present. After I explained my racing career, and various other high performance adventures, they said ok. Just thought that was very odd.

I don't know if State Farm offers the same coverage in your state but they have my Cobra, son's Camaro and brother's Trans Am insured down here in Louisiana.
State Farm did not ask me for a "Driving Resume" nor did they ask for a "Driving Resume" for my brother even though the Cobra & T/A are very peppy.
They also insure our home and other vehicles and insure my brother's home and his other vehicles.

< The values are 45-K (Cobra), 15-K (Camaro) and 50-K (Trans Am).
< Unfortunately my brother can no longer drive the T/A so it will likely get sold.
< The link below is the T/A and it only has 16-K miles on it if anyone is interested.

NOTE: We just insured the Camaro as an antique last month so I know they are still writing policies in our area.

Most of our insurance policies are with State Farm. I insured our motorhome with Good Sam because they know RVs and the unique aspects in the event of a claim.
I recently added a Cobra replica to the list and State Farm sublets the policy to Hagerty. Like with the RV I appreciate that the company understands the vehicle, value and risks. They asked appropriate questions and required photo documentation. They also asked for driving skill history which is not an issue for me. I am not sure how they would resolve that issue without that skill, education?
Insurance becomes problematic when you and the company disagree on a claim or settlement. I am comfortable with Hagerty.

We've been with State Farm for many, many years and have all of our vehicles insured with them, including our three classics. Never once were we asked for a "driving resume" which sounds like an immediate red flag to me. Go elsewhere.

For over 17 years I've been with State Farm for an agreed value but unlike Mr. Jones they hold the policy and asked no questions about my driving experience. If it was farmed out to Hagerty or another company perhaps that was an agent decision??? In my case State Farm has no mileage limitations or restrictions on how the car can be used.

I keep all my vehicles insured with State Farm. To get my FFR insured, I provided them pictures of the car from various angles, a picture of the engine, and the MSO. That was it. $80k agreed value, no mileage limitations, $30/mo. They never asked for a driving resume. That's ridiculous.

Insurance company policy SEP2023:
https://classicmotorsports.com/news/hagerty-and-state-farm-collaborate-to-offer-new-coverage-options/#:~:text=To%20qualify%20for%20State%20Farm,Farm%20 Classic+%20fueled%20by%20Hagerty.

As a specialty vehicle with unique dynamics, I wonder if State Farm/Hagerty requires a motorcycle license and training to insure a motorcycle? I have insured my motorcycles for years, and I have two levels of eligibility there too.
Qualification of functional skill seems appropriate for non-traditional vehicles.

I use Hagerty and have never been asked any of this stuff. I don't know why. I setup the first policy online and maybe because I have already been insured they didn't ask the second time.

I bought a Viper in 2016 and insured it through Hagerty with no issues. When I was building the Cobra I went to them and they brought up my driving resume with performance cars. Even after I submitted it I never got a quote from them so I called Robbin and had it easy peasy. Since then I've added my 68 Camaro and my wife's 67 Sunbeam Alpine. Robbin s the best IMO

Hagerty is the one who asked me that.

Hagerty asked me the same back in 2018. I just listed old muscle cars I've owned, and that I drive in AutoX events too. They didn't even blink

FWIW a few years ago my wife was stopped at a red light and got rear ended by a distracted driver doing 40+ MPH. Never slowed down at all. She was trapped for almost two hours in the car and had to be cut out with the Jaws of Life. My wife had State Farm and so did the other guy. State Farm ended up arguing about the claim and at one point even tried to lay the fault on my wife, who was completely stopped at a red light! After almost a year my wife had to get an attorney to get the claim paid.

A friend of ours is going through a similar deal with SF right now. They may have good rates but don't try to file a claim. Progressive is the same way in my experience.

I have 5 cars with Haggerty. Only with the addition of the Cobra did they ask me about "preformance car experience". I just told them they insured my Thunderbolt for 6 years. And my 427 powered Cougar for 5. They were happy to insure the Cobra.

Gave them a list going back to my 1962 409/409. Cobra is covered with agreed value no mileage limit policy.

FWIW, I have 2 FFR friends who were hit in their roadsters within the past 3 years; one was T-boned by a red light runner and the other was hit nearly head on when the oncoming driver crossed the centerline on a curve. Both were insured with State Farm and both cars were totaled. Both had checks for the full agreed value in hand within a few weeks with no disputes.

I've been through two teen drivers and several accidents, some of which were their fault, and some weren't. In the cases where it wasn't their fault, my cars were totaled, and also had checks within a week. In both cases, SF even reimbursed me for tires I'd recently put on the cars, a new tonneau cover I'd just bought, and even sales tax from the vehicle purchase. SF has been phenomenal, and I'd have a hard time leaving them for that reason, even for cheaper rates.

Good Information To Know & I'll try To Not Get T-Boned!

That's good to hear (about SF, not the crashes). Every situation is different, just passing on a personal experience that was very bad from all angles. Mainly just happy when they unfolded my wife from under the dash she was mostly okay. We're not allowed to say "SF" n our house these days.

I had my youngest daughter on my Farmer's policy for many years and went through numerous wrecks, most her fault, along with a few DWI issues. Have to say Farmers were amazing about paying, never a problem. A couple of years ago my mother got ran into and totaled her car. She has Progressive and they were absolutely the worse to deal with. I ended up tracking down the CEO's email address and getting her involved after a few months of run arounds.

I'm sure every insurance company has good and bad stories.

When I was looking to move my GT350 and add the Cobra, I looked at Grundy and they asks that information. There coverage is also, SUPER limiting that you basically trailer it over any distance and virtually can't enjoy it. Yes, this last statement is an exaggeration, but I wanted to actually drive my car..... So they were a hard pass form the beginning...

Speaking as an attorney who has dealt with them for various reasons, I can confirm SF is about the worst when it comes to claim coverage. I wouldn’t use them to insure an outhouse.
