Quick question from the group about 02 sensors. I am installing a data system I have laying around on my car to use for Carb tuning. I am having an internal personnel debate on the power source. Ideally I would only like to run my data system when testing and have a switch to power on/off, maybe battery feed. Or I could dig into my dash and I have another fuse wire that is ignition on, but that would run the data system all the time the car is running and I would have to manage the data a lot. So, question is, can the O2 sensor be in the exhaust stream most of the time with out power and still be reliable at the times I want to collect data or would it it fail with out the power on it.

Any input appreciated!

I assume you have a wideband 02 sensor to measure air/fuel ratio? No, you should not leave it in the exhaust unpowered when you're not datalogging, if that's what you're asking. Power preheats it so particulates burn off properly and don't clog up the sensor.

Yes, that is the exact question, that was my concern.
