As I stated in a previous post, I bought my car 95% complete from gentleman who did a really nice job, he also installed a lot of extras, such as, heated seats, windshield wipers, dash heater vents, and heater. The problem I’m having is when driving the car, I get hot air blown down on my knees, vent can’t be closed, heater is turned off. When not moving there is no air coming through the heater vents, only when moving. Could the air be coming through the squirrel cage and if so do you think if I block off the opening that would solve the problem? It’s hot enough outside now without the additional hot air..Any ideas? Thanks.

What type of vents do you have? Mine are a ball type that you can rotate around and use the center flat middle divider as a block off. Little to no air comes out when rotated closed. The problem with trying to block off the squirrel cage is one side can easily be covered but the other side with the motor shaft and motor mounts makes it difficult to close it off.

Cover the air intake on the blower motor. Simple

Alternative is a piece of duct tape.

I just posted this on the same topic.
That's because the engine bay gets hot and the air gets pushed through the heater even though it's off.

Solution is block off the heater when not used in some way or change your vents to a type that closes off.
Or turn the FFR ones this way to when not used.

If I remember correctly, the fan also draws air in on the motor side of the squirrel cage. I do recall many years ago that someone said they put a shower cap over the whole thing. Not pretty but probably works effectively.
