View Full Version : Source: Shorty Headers for BP 347 in Mk4

NOW I see that BPE is recommending special sources for headers, because their aluminum head layout is different than a Ford 302.
I bought BBK1515, but... oops. Also, I'm not running side-exhaust. I'm working on a rear exhaust idea.
Surely there's plenty experience for this combination I've mentioned. Any recommendations very welcome!
(Prefer silver cerakote, or bare steel and I'll have them coated. Don't really want S.S., if possible. Price is higher generally for S.S.)

I fabbed an undercar exhaust for my build using BBK ceramic coated shorty headers (15150). And I'm using BluePrint's 302 variant.
You can see some of the photos in my build thread.

Here's a pic of the passenger side header:

Blueprint heads have 2 bolt patterns for the exhaust...the standard OEM 302 Windsor spacing and a wider one. Off the shelf Mustang shorties will fit the standard pattern although you might find that tool clearance around the bolts is tight (you can deal with this by using socket head bolts).

Thanks Jeff, I know the conversations I need to have on Monday morning to get the correct headers. I'm concerned there may be a supply problem as I think Hedman or someone like that is moving their plant and has no product. Another site, I forget which one, can't deliver till January. But I'll beat the bushes Monday morning.
Jim, thanks for the under car exhaust pics, though I'm actually going to be trying to go out the rear of the car. It's a noise reduction thing. Haha! This sounds heretical to most Cobra owners, I suspect.

Plenty of options for shorty headers out there. Here are a few to get you started:

I have some BBK1515 silver cerekote headers on my table right now and the flange bolt pattern doesn't fit the BPE Al head. They're an inch off

Interesting. I have a set of BBK1515P ceramic shorty headers and they line right up to the AL heads on my BPE 302. My engine was delivered May 28th. The BPE AL heads have 2 sets of bolt holes per cylinder. The BBK1515 uses the inner set of holes.

Received my BPE 347 and ordered BBK 15150 shortys for an undercar system a couple years ago. No fitment issues, let me know if you need any pictures of the setup.

Okay -- it's solved! Pretty much everyone had this figured out. I didn't look closely enough at the port layout, but underneath (not completely hidden, actually) the exhaust port protection label is the bolt pattern for these BBK headers -- and others. This was certainly an important detail to overlook. Ugh.
