View Full Version : How to change thread title?

I've done several build threads and for each I always changed the title as I went so that forum members could see what the latest post was about without opening it. Been doing it for a number of years. The process I used:
1. Open forum thread list, e.g. Forum: Roadster Build Threads.
2. Locate my thread, and double click on the existing forum title.
3. The title box would open allowing the title to be changed.
4. Type in the change, hit enter, and it would be saved.
5. Within several minutes the Recent Threads listing would reflect the updated change.
All good. But now, I complete steps 1 and 2. Then with step 3, the existing title box opens but only briefly. Not allowing me to change and then routes to the actual thread. Fail.
I see others are changing the titles in their threads. What's your secret? Something changed?
Thanks.

Hi Jeff. Thanks for the response. In the past when I did it that way, it only seemed to change the title on that individual post but not on the title that showed for the thread in the forum listing. But I see now it does. Easy solution. Thanks.

This isn't working for me. I always did it the way Jeff described but something has changed. I can change the title of the first post but not the thread title anymore. Any new suggestions?

I just did this yesterday (as described above) for my build thread update. Worked OK.

Did you follow Jeff's instructions on Post #1 of your build thread? I've always edited my title from Post #1 using the Go Advanced feature, and it's updated as expected. It takes 5 minutes sometimes for everything to refresh, but it's always worked.

I guess I don't understand how this works. If you edit Post #1 with an update to your thread (including title modification) doesn't it change Post #1? Or am I asleep at the wheel here?
I was able to update a thread title the same way I always have, which is how Paul was describing it in his first post. I'm using MS Edge for the browser. On a slightly related topic, I think there may be a limit to how many times you can change the title. In my MK4 build thread, I was doing as Paul described, but now I can't change the title on that thread any longer.

I think this may be what happened, as I have changed it a lot over the years. Now the question becomes, how do I get the counter reset? I sent a message to the moderators months ago, as usual though, I never get responses that way.

It does change the title in Post #1, but it also changes the title for the thread. The title for the thread gets created when you make Post #1.

For the thread that I can't change the title on (my MK4 build thread), I was able to edit the title of the first post, but the thread title didn't change. I also created a test thread and modified the title over 90 times with no issue, so I think the theory of the max change counter is not correct.

Strange. I wonder if a moderator could chime in on this? I’d really like to change the build thread title.

I wonder if the age of your build thread (2018) has anything to do with it? Maybe there were different forum technical rules/behavior then vs now.

Possibly, but something changed since I last did it in June of last year.

I simply double click the existing thread title and a change box opens around it. Sort of like if you change the file name of a folder in Windows. Just double click, make the changes then click outside the box and the changes are made.
