Anyone have a picture or two ? I have the one line from the fuel tank to the canister, but what else goes to it ?

Not sure what year system you're working with.....I just googled Mustang Vacuum Diagram. It came up with a bunch of them, but this is the one for the Fox bodies, I think.

Hope it helps!

I hooked my tubing from the canister to the vacuum fitting on the EGR plate. Now I notice in the diagram that there is a canister purge valve between the canister and vacuum source. Do either of you (Bil1024 or Buildit) have this item? I don't remember ever seeing this in my donor pallet. I did not take that portion of the system apart. Is it necessary or can it be omitted? The only reason I can see for the valve would be as a check valve to avoid loosing vacuum from bled back. However, this is a closed system so I am not sure if that is a valid concern. I will do some research to see if I can discover the answer, also. Thank you for this thread. WEK.

I have done what I can to resolve the above question. There is a call made to a guy at Summit (Wayne) after the tech line could not answer the question. My initial thought is that the canister purge solenoid is not necessary or it would have been addressed in the instructions in my EFI harness. It is very detailed and comprehensive. So until further notice from an expert on the forum or tech specialist from Summit, I am leaving mine hooked up as is. I will post if I get an update. Hope that helps. WEK.

I used the original canister and purge valve from an 89 Mustang 5.0 EFI. The engine harness has a connector for the purge valve to plug into and the vapor hose comes from the canister, throught the valve and runs to a vacuum port in the front of the upper intake plenum. Jim

I thought most guys just run a line from the tank to the canister and let it breath naturally. (and mount the canister in the rear) Does it need a vacuum line?

I don't know--I set it up as the original donor had it.

Without the purge valve you have a large vacuum leak. The purge valve acts as a means of 'cleaning' the canister.

Bil1024 didn't say if he had a donor harness. If you do then you insert the purge solenoid and hook it to the harness. If you don't have a source of power and control for the purge valve (solenoid) what do you do? Mine does not have a connection for the solenoid. WEK.

Without a connection for the purge valve I would just leave off the vacuum connection to the engine.

So MPTech's recommendation of mounting it in the rear is a good one. This is the first I have heard of mounting it in the rear but that would be cleaner looking. Now I will have enough vapor hose to build my next 3 or 4 cars. Of course, now I will probably get those tell tale gas fumes that are associated with the roadsters in many descriptions. Thanks for your advice. WEK.

It would be nice to have this as a note in the manual for those not using a donor harness. Maybe it is in the new MKIV one.

Yes I have the donot harness, like Jeff said, I thought it went to the intake as a vacuum in order to suck the fumes from the gas tank

Bil1024,
So you're in luck. You can run yours just like cobrajj (post #5) said since you have that electrical control for the purge solenoid (ECU opens purge valve to vent trapped vapor in canister at highway speeds to relieve pressure periodically with no noticible effect on performance - read that online). Unfortunatley, I and others with the aftermarket harness wasted our time installing the canister per the manual. FFR suggests not using the canister at all if you don't have the solenoid control in the harness(just vent the tank to the air by running a vent tube somewhere on the frame). Well, I guess there is one more item to remove from my build. Didn't like the ugly thing anyway! WEK.
