View Full Version : PS-PB Hydroboost - can I install a Heidts control valve on just the PS side?

I installed a Forte hydroboost on my Mk4 for PB and PS, it works just like it's supposed too and I'm really happy I installed it.
The brakes work great, I have the stock Kit OEM ford brakes, they stop the car really well with what I would consider to be good feel to the brake peddle.

Having the option I would have liked to have a little less power on the power steering.
I was wondering if I can install a adjustable pressure valve like a Heidts or maybe a reducer fitting on the high pressure line to the rack? Has anyone done something like this, I'm looking for some thoughts here without potentially creating a problem in the system.. If it could create more "issues" later, I'd leave it the way it is..

On a slightly separate note. I think the kit supplied rear brakes I rec'd were Ford 11.5", I have the IRS rear end in my MK4. I'm not a big fan of how the how the e-brake cable routes/connects to the caliper position and the additional difficulty connecting. I made it work with the addition of a bracket but with hindsight I would have changed to a different set of rear brakes/caliper maybe the larger (12.5" ??) Ford Brakes would have been better or maybe just sprung for the willwoods in the first place.. Hindsight is like that..

Here is what I did with my Forte supplied PS pump. Used a smaller restrictor on the pump outlet. I don't really have much to compare it to, but my steering feels smooth and easy but not overboosted. (Althogh maybe with the hyrdroboost that won't work.)

I always try to find the simplest solution for my build. The more complexity and components, the higher a chance of component or fitting failure.

JMD, that ain't gonna' work for Jeff_J. because it will also reduce the pressure to the brake assist.

Jeff_J.,
"T" the high pressure line and install the Heidt's valve between the PS high pressure and return lines but leave the brake booster line unrestricted.

Thanks for the thought on this Jeff, I'll have a look at this approach.
