Just like the title says,
I roughed in the trunk lid. I narrowed it just enough to fit side to side. As you can see it sits really proud. So my question is what is the best course of action from here? It seems to my untrained eye I need to take about 1/4" off the bottom. But I don't think that's right. The bulb seal along the trunk is really tight. I cant pull the body in any tighter. I am comfortable leaving it as is for now but if it needs to be trimmed the latch won't line up.
So what is the move here? I appreciate any advice that you guys can give

My MkII was like that. The body shop made some cuts in the lid so it could be straightened out and then filled the cuts w/ something like HSRF that he made up himself from epoxy and filaments of glass cloth.

My first one was like that as well. I want to say that I took some off the bottom of the lid but can’t recall.

Do not cut the lid. The body need to be pulled in at the bottom, then a little trimming on the lid bottom will get you close. At this point you should NOT have any bulb seal on, you need to see what aluminum needs trimming

My advice...leave it alone ;)
But if you must... first put the trunk seal on. Yes, the lower edge of the lid must be trimmed. If the lower valance won't push in any farther and the bulb seal is fully compressed the aluminum has to be trimmed. If you're going to mount the trunk latch handle and you plan to have stripes do not use the 3 white marks that FFR put on (align it with the license plate lamp, even though that lamp is off center). Looks like you got one of "those" bodies :(

I definitely did. Lol
Ok I will pull the back end up and do a little figment testing without the seal. I just want a rough fit enough to register and legally drive the car. So maybe just pretend put on the latch for the photos and put tape on it to hold it down.
One of my goals here is to try and not make your life any harder than I need too. Or maybe I just have to wait until after paint to register it after all.
One thing at a time.
Thanks Jeff

This is what I had to do. Pulled the body out at the bottom. The trunk and the drivers door were both a pita.

I’ll be mowing all afternoon since being away at LCS last week but give me a call later this week.
