For those of you who went the speedometer gps module route on your roadster. Where did you place the antenna so that it works but doesn't stand out ? Seems like the windshield post might be the only place that makes sense. Photos would be appreciated along with reviews on the unit. Thanks

You can place it under the dash, hidden under the body, if you'd like but you must make sure that the antenna is not covered by metal.

Remember that Radio Waves (GPS signals) are not effected by fiberglass. It is also why our cars and other composite cars like Corvette's have minimal radar signatures because those signals are bouncing off what is under the body of the car more so than the body of the car itself. Also, the nose cones on many jets are made of composites.

On another note our angled reward radiators tend to diffuse radar signals from the Po-Po, but laser clocking systems they use will nail us.

Hope This Helps & Good Luck!

Thank you for that info.

I believe most set it on the wide, flat piece just behind and off to the side of the dash. At build school they recommended putting it on the passenger side (I don't remember why), but that's what I did and it's been fine. It has good exposure for signal and is only covered by fiberglass (which, as stated doesn't interfere with the signal).

Here is a pic for reference. The wide flat black area outboard of the firewall. Sorry I don't have a better pic to post.

Thank you JMD. So it can be mounted on metal as long as ther is no upper metalic interference ? Does it have to be mounted vertically or can it lay horizontally ?

I think laying it flat so it has a clear path to open sky is best, but I don't know that for a fact. Mounting vertically might work, but I suspect laying it flat works best. And yes, as long as there isn't any metal over the top of it, it should work fine.

That's where they placed it in the Build School.
