View Full Version : How do people generally attach the air ducts to the front of the body

Either no one has posted or my google/search skills are bad. But I was wondering how people were attaching the front air ducts for the foot box fresh air vents or brake ducts. Also what adapters are people using?

I found these two options on most my searches.
https://prdcrrct.com/product/nose-vent-adapter-kit/?v=0b3b97fa6688

and from a seemingly unpopular site
https://www.**********accessories.com/p-17-front-air-vent-ducts.aspx

But there is no obvious way to install these.

I was wondering if these could possibly be used

I was thinking of trimming the flange, putting some self adhesive weather stripping on the trimmed flange, drilling a few holes in the flange, and then use the adhesive ready studs I see many folks using for side Louvers.

I honestly haven't climbed under the body to measure or see if this plan would work. Was hoping I could get some advise from all the great builders on the site.

I used clear exterior silicone.

For foot box fresh air vents I didn’t attach a fitting to the body. I made a fitting to go on the bilge blowers I bought and mounted the blowers up front. A picture is worth a thousand words.
I glued the vent screens on with exterior grade clear silicone.

I used clear silicone for screen & adaptor. Adaptor looks like the Cobra Nose vent adapter kit but was from a FFR 3rd party vendor.

EDIT: Was Cobra Earl's footbox fan kit

John4337 - No issues with adhession over time? Do you have to maintain the attachement?

Norm B - First time I've seen the fans installed this way. Very interesting.

Been on for 10 years never touched after install. If silicone best to get outdoor type.

The front air ducts I used came with Cobra Earl's footbox fan kit, and are most like the ones you found at Period Correct. Whatever ducts you use, you'll have to trim them to match the underside contour of the body.

Rather than use silicon, I used #6-32 3/4" screws through the sides of the opening. It's a bit of a pain to get the nuts started, but (1) they're not coming off unless I want them to, and (2) no mess to clean up if I have to remove & reinstall.

I was going to ask a similar question, I neglected to install the brake duct opening with screen before paint, so that’s a no go now. Trying to find the brake duct fittings that will work. Cobra Earl is gone, Period correct fittings seem to be way to long , does anyone have any other suggestions as to where the fittings can be had? Just need to be able to fill in the blank openings.

Trim to match the opening and use a nice heavy bead of silicone. Then use a paint stick rear opening of the duct and a paint stick on the front of the car with a zip tie pulling it all together until it dries. It won't move again till you cut it off.
