Paint Questions

Hello fellow builders,

I am getting to a point with the body work where it's time to start planning the painting, and I was hoping I could put a few questions up please.

I have chosen Randyapple Red III with white stripes, not sure quite yet which white but maybe Arctic White, or another suggestion if anyone has one. My question is possibly for Jeff Kleiner because I know he has painted a few cars with these colors before, and thanks in advance!

What sealer color did you use with the Randyapple Red III?

Did you spray the stripe color down the center before masking the stripes and spraying base?

What's the minimum time you would wait to put the body back on the car?

I am mainly asking as I have received some conflicting advice on the stripes process with Randyapple Red to what I would have originally planned, so I want to make sure!

Also I'll take the opportunity to say thank you to anyone contributing to body work and paint threads. It has answered SOOO many questions!

Randyapple III has to go over a black undercoat/sealer.

Yes, I always put the stripe color down the center first.

When I've done Randyapple with a white stripe I have used tri-coat Nissan Pearl White (code QAC)

Bodies go back on after cut & buff.

I actually forgot one more question, apologies.

After putting the clear can you have issues with the stripes not being flush with the base coat? If so could I please ask for some advice on the best way to resolve this?

That’s a gorgeous red. I’ve seen a similar red with a sort of gray metallic silver stripe. I love those deep reds.

I did this one using the same red with stripes matched to the Halibrand wheel centers.

YES! That’s such a great combo.

Painthouse makes some great colors! I see they now have a PEARLOT that is similar to Randy Apple III. Hard to tell the difference on their website.
Does anyone know the difference? Perhaps more pearl than candy?
