Just putting the finishing touches on the car before it heads to paint. Find out my fan is not working. Blown 30 amp fuse. Replace fuse, blows immediately. Remove fan and test by connecting directly to 12vdc. It does not spin. Monitor voltage while powering fan, drops to nearly zero. So I have a bad fan and I'm supposed to trailer this car to California in just over a week.

I guess the question is, will FFR cover this under warranty after 1.5 years of receiving it? Or is there a better, upgraded fan that I should use? And if it is covered under warranty, what are the chances of getting a replacement before I have to leave for Cali?

I’d say that to get an answer to questions #1 and #3 you need to call 508-291-3443

I have a stock fan I received from FFR last Spring for my MK4 build I can send if you'll cover shipping. I used a different fan instead and don't have a use for the FFR unit. If FF won't send you another one just let me know and you can have mine.

The fan supplied by FFR is not very high quality, doesn't pull much air, and sounds like an F16 on afterburner. If you don't want to hear the exhaust it's the fan for you. Other than that it's a fine piece.

Do yourself a huge favor and upgrade to a Flex-A-Lite. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/flx-105390

My experience with FFR is that they have been very good supporting products that fail prematurely. I had my steering rack go bad during the go-cart stage (1.5 years after receiving it) and they replaced it without hesitation.

I agree. Since this was Friday after hours, I sent an email.

Thanks for the offer JMD, I'll keep you posted.

I just might do that Mike. Most of the stuff FFR supplies is cost saving. Most of the time it's not an issue, but the quality suffers I think.

This is good news. The only issue I have is whether they can get me a replacement before I take the car to paint in a week.

I believe I went with the one Mike recommended and it's great. I also didn't want a crazy loud fan and even though the FFR supplied fan is probably fine, it wasn't a part I wanted to cheap out on. If a fan stops working and you don't notice that could be a lot of time and $$$$ to fix the fallout.

+1 on the Flex-A-Lite. I turned it on for the first time via the manual button in the garage and I felt it at the back of the car. Very quiet too.

Thanks guys, I'm going with the Flex-a-lite as well. Found it on Amazon for a buck cheaper than Summit, plus I'll have it tomorrow. :)

On a related note, I gave that other fan another test. When I hooked it up to 12vdc I noticed the fan moved slightly. So I gave it a little push and it started spinning, slowly at first but then picked up speed. Checked voltage on the battery I was using and it was about 4vdc with the fan running, definitely toast.
