View Full Version : Aviaid Oil Pan Swap

I know a large number of builders on this forum have used the Aviaid "55-55361 Original GT-40 Pan for 351W" for the 6.5" clearance. If I recall correctly, many have also had to "swap" in that pan to replace an older deeper pan.
So my question to the group, what oil pickup did you use to match with the 6.5" Aviaid pan? Am I good sticking with my current one? For context, I currently have a 7.5" deep Milodon pan (best picture I have at the moment below).
Any help on 1) if I need to change the pickup (or how to test if I do), and 2) what pickup everybody else is using with the 6.5" deep Aviaid pan would be a ton of help.
Thanks!

You obviously can't use a 7.5" pickup tube in a 6.5" oil pan

It comes it the pickup.
I also added these reinforcements for the rails.

Does you Milodon hang below the frame? I have that same pan on my 427 stroker, and it does not hang below the frame with the kit-supplied motor mounts.

Excellent! I wasn't sure about that and was worried I would have to do some searching for a random pickup or modify something. This makes me feel much better.
To confirm, do you recall if the pickup was pressed-in or bolted in? I ask because I'm going to have to do this swap in-situ on the lift.
Lastly, where did you get those studs/rails? I may have to use a pair myself (assuming the DART block and the BOSS Ford performance blocks have similar thread sizes in that location).

My Mildon did not hang below the frame with the stock mounts. I was having engine fitment problems and had to swap the FFR mounts out for some hard mounts from Gordon Levy which dropped the pan just below the rails (about an 1/8" or so) - thus the need for the swap.

Yeah, touche. Kind of one of those questions that answers itself. I wasn't sure if people were modifying the exiting pickups or not. But now knowing that a pickup will come with the pan via Mike helps settle that question.

It's quite an elaborate pickup to work with the pan. Yes, it's a bolt on so easy peasy.
