A little about me.
I guess I have a thing about building things. It started sometime around 8th grade with scratch built sailboats, model cars and such.
About 30 or so years ago I became interested in old cars and had bought a 1929 Model A Street Rod. After having fun with it for a few years I started looking for a build project and found a rusted tub that was originally a 1928/9 Model A Ford Phaeton. This was just the tub from the cowl back, no frame, running gear, hood, fenders or interior. The project took about 4 years to source and assemble a big pile of parts into a complete Street Rod.
Years later, as a surprise, my wife decided she would buy a special car for my 55th birthday. So on my birthday this guy showed up driving an AC Cobra replica, a MK-1 FFR complete with a blower and a paltry 350ish rear wheel HP... that blower sounded SO cool, and being it was painted by Ken Pike it looked beautiful. During that time I was a member on this website. UB DRMNG was the license plate and my member name on this forum.
We had the MK-1 for about 8 years and being a MK-1 it was really a tight fit for a 6' 2", somewhat larger driver so I sold it to a friend, and yes he is still a friend and still owns the car!
My next big project was building a Van's, RV-12 Aircraft kit into a flying airplane that I'm still flying!
Anyway, I had been looking for the next project. Looking at FFR, I had been thinking a Hotrod might be fun to build, and with a complete kit most of the parts sourcing is done so it should be considerably easier than the street rod build! Enter the 30th anniversary cars. When FFR announced the 30th anniversary roadster and Coupe I showed them to my wife and guess what, she said I should build another Cobra! When I called to ask about getting a Cobra kit they were sold out :-( The nice guy on the phone asked for my number in case someone cancelled, and that was it! A couple days went by and a strange number rang my cell and I almost didn't answer, but I'm glad I did... it looks like I'll be building 30th anniversary Cobra, #30!
That's it in a nutshell, I'm looking forward to reading the posts here while waiting for the new kit to arrive which should be mid October. since I am moving and FFR was nice enough to hold it so I won't have to move the kit again in a couple months.
I hope to meet some of you at a car show in the not too distant future.
Cheers!
