I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who have painted stripes on their car and used the original Wimbledon White paint code. I am planning on white stripes and a white engine compartment. The stripes will be painted but the engine bay panels will be powdercoated. So here is my situation:

After doing some research I found only Prismatic Powders has an actual color matched powder listed as Wimbledon White. I bought a pound of it and did three test panels. I know WW is an off-white and has some "cream" or "butter" to it but there was a little more than I expected. I know with stripes they tend to look whiter when laid down next to color but even comparing them to the Dover White stripes (also an off-white) on my Camaro the panels seem pretty buttery to me. Maybe it's nothing.

If I had my choice, I would color match a powder against the stripes but I don't really see how I can do that without having a spray out done. I thought about having a rattle can loaded at Industrial Finishes but I'm not sure how close it match a sprayed out finish which is clear coated. So I guess my two questions are these:

How buttery are your stripes or does that disappear when next to color?
If you didn't do WW, what white did you choose?

I really appreciate any and all feedback.

Wimbledon White is pretty creamy. Here it is against silver (Mercedes DB180 silver). I actually like it a lot for the vintage vibe.

Thanks John. That's almost exactly what my panels look like. I guess the disconnect I am having is seeing cars where they indicate the car is Viking Blue and Wimbledon White but the white to me looks more polar or alpine. I am guessing this white is not Wimbledon:

I also stumbled on these web pages which I am guessing are old:

https://www.factoryfive.com/factory-five-paint-colors/

https://www.factoryfive.com/factory-five-paint/

I would be curious which of these applies to the brochure cars. I'm hoping Jeff Kleiner chimes in as he has painted many, many of these.

Photos can be deceiving and computer monitors don't always reflect how the paint is in person, but I agree with you that that doesn't look like Wimbledon White in that photo. It may be Oxford White if they stuck with white colors from that era.

Thank you!

Tim is entirely correct. JohnK's car is a masterpiece.

John's photo seems to be a pretty accurate representation. I've seen the 15 car in person and that's not Wimbledon. Light, camera and monitor are everything and won't tell the truth like our eye does. Here's one of mine with Wimbledon stripes and roundels under shop light vs outside. If you didn't know better you could easily think that you're looking at different colors:

For a true comparison you really need to do a spray out with Wimbledon using the same paint and putting it under clear.

Thanks Jeff. I think most of this misunderstanding of the color is my fault as I made assumptions about a few cars which were not correct. I personally like all the various whites so I just need to make a decision on how bright I want it to be.

I used Wimbledon White for my stripes. To my eye, the cream color does come out when the sun is low, but in full daylight it looks more like a neutral white (but not bright).
