Hey guys...are there any known issues with a rear sump configuration in the MK4 roadsters?

Most of the aftermarket vendors (Kevco, Canton, Moroso) only offer a low profile 7-1/2" deep pan in a rear sump configuration. I know Champ & Aviaid offer a low profile 7-1/2" in a front sump configuration.

Moroso had a 7-1/2" deep front sump (20509) but seems to have dropped the offering. I'm working with an engine builder and looking for suggestions. This is for a Dart SHP block stroked for 347.

Main concern with a rear sump configuration is driver side located oil dip stick provision and access to bell housing bolts. Looking for any input or experience with rear sump configuration.

Thanks in advance.

Factory pans are rear sump, and is considered standard on these cars. The pan has nothing to do with bell housing bolts, and it's the perfect placement for the dip stick, so I don't get your concern. I recommend the Kevco pans, great value

I have a rear sump oil pan on my Dart 363 and it works well. The frame design of the Gen 3 coupe and I assume the new MkV make it so a front sump pan will not fit. The only issue is to remove the pan the bell housing bolts have to be loosened 4 or 5 turns, but not a big deal. The pan does not limit access to the bolts.

+1 on the Kevco plan. You’ll need a rear sump pick up tube and mounting stud as well as a universal dip stick that kevco also sells. Dip stick comes out between #6-7 headers for my shorties and I plugged the timing cover dip stick hole with a bolt covered in RTV

If you want top of the line and insure plenty of ground clearance go with an Aviaid 155-55362 https://aviaid.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ws_oilpns_sbf-ss2.html
