Any build threads out there for the Mk5. I have looked at Eric Treves build numerous times and have gotten some good info. but would like some more nitty gritty on running components like brake lines on the new frame. I am familiar with the previous frames, not sure on the new one. The brake lines could be run down the 4" tube before, but not sure how to come out of the footbox. Don't want to go below the footbox as it would be the lowest point to the ground.
Thanks, Ralph

I am watching for any Mark V build threads too. As soon as I get mine going I will post but so far we are just getting ready.

Erik’s video’s are great …. however my supplied up front aluminum is slightly different than his, particularly around the reservoir area. You will want to be mindful of where the front most panels install as they will likely not be on the car when running brake lines and wiring harness. I chose to consolidate everything coming into and out of my drivers foot box into a central bank of 6 stainless steel an-3 fittings and a grommet for the wires. 3 stainless lines from the reservoirs to the bulkhead fittings. On the back of the bulkhead fittings I have 3 stainless steel lines to the Master Cylinders with the wilwood cap fittings, and then hard lines out. Make your own choice between 2 vs 3 reservoirs. The brake lines then run parallel to one another under the top inside rail then under the diagonal one to the booster location. From the booster the fronts go to the drivers side first (again be mindful of the front most panels) then down and over to the passenger side. The rear runs from the booster along (above) the main rail down the passenger side. (Just like Erik did). Once above the rear differential, I chose to go to the passenger side first then over to the driver’s side. My setup required a few extra fittings but ended up clean looking. I ran NICOP lines which were really easy to shape/flare and I still used a wire coat hanger to moc everything up first. The biggest issue I had was with the supplied fittings to the booster and getting a good seal there. I am chalking it up to user error, but just triple check that there are no leaks in/out of the booster and be prepared to pick up a replacement copper washer. Here are a few pics which might help. My first time doing it so I realize it is not perfect, but I am pleased with how it came out.214481214482

Tango, thanks for the great pictures. Since I am not running a booster, my front will be very different, and then decide where to run to the rear. Your bulkhead transitions are elegant and interesting. Are those rivnuts around your top panel for easy removal later?
I am using 3 reservoirs, two near where you did yours for brakes, and hyd clutch one on the firewall, with filler hose out that side of the footbox. Pressure line to clutch will be below filler in that is same general area.
I am thinking of mounting my brake reservoirs on the brace nearer the engine side than your spot. I will be running a 347, so don't think engine width clearance will be as issue. Also, will be more accessible as not under the body fiberglass. My Mk4 has them in that location and it is not a problem.
Keep posting as there are more building Mk5's all the time.

If are not brake booster... I would suggest looking in the Coupe section as it's basically the same

I just started one and I’m stuck on questions on Control Arms. Would appreciate any help. Question in my thread.
Thanks!
