I had to order a new hood from factory five since the person who started my build had tried unsuccessfully to cut the reinforcement at the bottom edge.

My new hood arrived and I did the following:
1. Placed some strips of bulb seal on the body side of the hood opening
2. I have a 3/4" rubber block under the body as Jeff suggests.
3. I have taken all the hinges apart, removed the waved washers and added washers to tighten up the hinges.

A couple of questions.
1. Should I cut the hood for the scoop before fitting?
2. The front of the hood seems to fit poorly. It is lifting on the passenger side. If I attach the hinges will it fix this? (Photos below)
3. I see people have moved the latches out to a 26" spacing. Anything wrong with this idea or even going 27"?

I have the doors complete and this is the last of my portion of bodywork before sending to the professionals.

Glad to see you got a new hood, Don! I don't have any words of wisdom, and I know the experts will chime in. Just came here to say congrats on the new hood. I know you weren't looking forward to fixing the hack job on the last one! I'm anxiously awaiting your S&S alignment experience, so I can hopefully drive mine down there, too.

1. I ask my customers to leave the scoop cutout to me. If you insist on doing it these are the dimensions I use:

This will center it on the underside indentation but leave enough wiggle room to place the scoop on the actual centerline of the car (because the center of the hood is not the center of the car).

2. Install and adjust the hinges. In the end you may need to use a rubber bumper in the front center...about 20% of them need it.

3. Yes, you can go outward with the latches. When used in conjunction with a large bumper at the center in the back having them farther out helps pull the corners flush with the body.
