Hi everyone, I need a little help, I want to raise the seats on my MK1, they are the original fiberglass shell seats and they are currently held in place with 4 lag screws. I am thinking of adding some metal bar backing to seat base and using 1.25 and 1.00 inch bars to rasie the seat. But are they really attached with screws? Not bolts?

That is kind of on the original builder. Lots of times the right rear attachment that goes into the main 4" tube is a screw, or the hole is tapped for a bolt, or a nutsert is used. Otherwise I am w/ you, I much prefer bolts and nuts.

I have a mk1 and I used 2 sets of sliders on my seats and it raised them as you want to do ! As far as the mounting there are steel mounting plates on my frame from the factory that fit 2 of the spots for the sliders ! I added the other 2 places to the frame .

thaks for the answer, any chance you know what sliders you used and how you attached everything? If you have pics that would be great! thanks!!

I used the sliders Factory Five was selling at the time. Just universal sliders that Summit Racing and most rod shops sell. I reinforced some of the under side mounts and attached them with bolts. To keep the passenger side at the same height I used 1 inch square tubing.
At the time some guys were also raising the front of the seat an inch or two with square tubing. Mark Reynolds at Breeze developed a nice seat installation kit (https://breezeautomotive.com/shop/installation-kit-for-new-steel-frame-classic-seats/) to simplify the process. I'd check with him to see if it will still work with your older seats.
Here's some old pics of my installation.
